Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Philips.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After sits on the board of directors of a local nonprofit organization, international organizations, and even my own nonprofits in South Africa, I felt the need to help small nonprofits grow their revenue since that is always the challenge. Prior to my work in consulting, I worked in many nonprofits for more than 12 years and in many capacities.
I have sits on board of directors of local nonprofits, the international organization even start my own nonprofit in South Africa, I have worked as Director of Development for an international nonprofit, doing fundraising. While working years ago, I always look for opportunities to freelance and consult for other nonprofits, I really enjoyed my work and I loved being in the nonprofit sector.
I realized that there were some aspects of my job that I loved and excelled at, while others that I didn’t enjoy at all. I wanted to create a career that really leveraged my strengths. as I was doing some reflection in 2020 after my Master’s degree from University of San Diego. Eventually, I had enough freelance work and a big enough audience that I felt ready to make the leap.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Your success depends on your ability to consistently and proactively grow your business. Consultants who struggle and consultants who succeed have one thing in common: thinking about your marketing and thinking about your business plan is not enough. Working on your plan day in and day out on a consistent basis will bring you success. You will gain momentum as you feed your business engine on a daily basis, and then your consultancy will grow to the point where you can choose who you want to work with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Philips Nonprofit Consulting helps non-profits raise more money so they can do more good. As a fundraising consultant, I help organizations dramatically increase the amount they raise by systemizing their fundraising. With my expertise in fundraising, as an author and speaker, I have helped numerous non-profits escape the donor treadmill by finding new donors, making more asks, and building fundraising systems.
I help organizations raise the money they need to thrive because they do great work. Our company develops bespoke fundraising systems after analyzing data and using state-of-the-art fundraising tactics to create the most effective fundraising methods for each non-profit.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
As part of the lesson, we learned that, once a crisis happens, whether it be financial, political, environmental, or any other, there will always be an opportunity waiting on the other side. spending too much time on the crisis is counter-productive both personally and in business, creating techniques to minimize outside distractions and refocus on what our mission is, that will make us physically and mentally pursue the opportunity that follows.
