Inspiring Conversations with Walter Fermin of Fermin Chiropractic & Laser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Fermin.

Hi Walter, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Throughout my youth I enjoyed athletic competition. While participating in varied sports from Football, Hockey, Archery, Golf, Tennis, and many others, it was as a Track & Field Sprinter where I excelled and competed at a Collegiate Level. Amid the stresses of competing at such an elite level, injuries were bound to happen, and I experienced several. When I sought out care for these injuries, I found Chiropractic to be the most effective method to help get back to peak athletic performance quickly. This fueled my passion for this healing art, and to help athletes and people in all walks-of-life to achieve a healthy wellbeing.

I earned my undergraduate degree from San Diego State University, then completed my doctorate from SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA University of Health Sciences. While attaining my chiropractic degree at SCUHS I partook in associations that would help me acquire skills for practice. The Sports Injury Council of SOUTHERN CAL and The Graston Technique, just to name a few, set me on the path to utilize revolutionary treatments such as Therapeutic Laser and percussion therapies. Currently I am associated with the American College of Sports Medicine. I incorporate many modalities of therapy to help heal people. I am a certified Rock Doc with RockTape Kinesio Taping and am skilled in utilizing Laser therapies with the latest advancements through Erchonia Laser Devices. I encompass these therapies with chiropractic adjustments to achieve the goal of optimizing patient wellness and overall health.

Currently I have a successful Family Chiropractic practice in San Marcos California. And found much success treating locals since 2015. I accredit my chiropractic skills and talents from years of treating injured Athletes during my tenure in different clinics, primarily in the Orange County area. My involvement with athletic care is further influenced through my association with the American College of Sports Medicine.

With a background steeped in sports chiropractic, translating my care to the general population is proving to have brilliant results. Not only in rehabilitating injuries, but also in enhancing people’s wellbeing in whatever they do! This is accomplished through chiropractic techniques and modalities including diversified adjustments, Thompson technique, nutritional and supplements advise, and physiotherapies.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, and thankfully so because anything worth-while will not be easy. My main initial challenge with becoming a Chiropractor was going back to school ten plus years after earning my bachelor’s degree, while having a family at the same time.

Once I graduated with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree, the hardships really began as I began my practice in San Marcos CA without knowing a soul in the area. I was able to utilize my marketing skills and promote my new practice with local businesses, participate in networking groups, and attend health faires in order to get my name out to the local communities. It was arduous work including cold calling and door-to-door promotions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fermin Chiropractic & Laser?
I am a Chiropractic practice with a specialization in injury rehabilitation. I utilize therapeutic laser care along with many physiotherapy techniques. I am also an exercise physiologist who can help with exercise and movement therapies to alleviate different conditions.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’ve lived in many cities, including growing up in western Canada, but San Diego is by far the best city and area I’ve ever lived. My reasons are numerous, from weather to the beaches to the attitudes of the people, but all of them are fantastic to me.
Yet because of such reasons, it is very popular to a lot of people so it will affect the cost of living where it will be increased because of the popularity. So the general cost of living, and as high as it is, is what I like least about San Diego.
