Inspiring Conversations with Zeine Charabati of My Aromaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeine Charabati.

Zeine Charabati

Hi Zeine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
With a passion for natural living, the idea of My Aromaz started well before the brand was created in 2022. I fell in love with Aromatherapy many years ago as I was looking for alternative solutions to daily challenges such as pain and anxiety.

For over a decade, I dedicated my professional life to a government job overseas, providing support to families in distress. My daily work included talking to families going through a hard time and managing cases involving divorce, child abduction, detention, hospitalization, and more. The emotional toll on my mental health became apparent. Seeking comfort in natural remedies, I started discovering the world of aromatherapy and was amazed by the results. I truly fell in love with all the oils and their magical power.

I also started using oils on my daughters to support them. One of my daughters has a rare disorder called Glut 1 (Glucose Transporter Deficiency), causing episodic muscle pain. I initially used arnica oil on her legs to ease the pain, and it was helping her a lot. However, my concern about utilizing alternative solutions without proper knowledge led me to embark on a journey of formal education in Aromatherapy, and I eventually became a Certified Aromatherapist.

During the final stages of my certification program, life presented another challenge. My sister was diagnosed with lymphoma and undergoing chemotherapy, resulting in severe joints pain.

Immersed in my studies, I seized the opportunity to create a blend to ease her pain. Drawing from my experience with arnica oil for my daughter, I curated a blend incorporating herbal oils and essential oils. The resulting blend, now known as Recovery Oil, proved to be immensely beneficial to her, and without any side effects! That’s how I decided I needed to offer it to other people, and this became my first product for my business.

Every product in my brand carries a unique story…But this one was how My Aromaz started.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s almost never a smooth road with solopreneurship. My journey has been marked by a series of challenges, including the constant need for financial support to facilitate growth and the presence of huge competition from large corporations who dominate this market. In addition to these external pressures, there were moments of self-doubt that inevitably arose, testing my resilience and determination. While the road has been marked by challenges, each obstacle has contributed to the learning curve of my solopreneurship journey.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about My Aromaz?
My Aromaz is a small aromatherapy business dedicated to providing natural solutions for everyday challenges. With a certification in aromatherapy, I specialize in formulating therapeutic blends tailored to address specific issues, including sleep, anxiety, pain, motion sickness, and nausea. Additionally, I craft a selection of skincare products using only herbs and oils, emphasizing purity and simplicity in every formulation.

The product offerings at My Aromaz can be categorized into four main groups:

Diffuser blends: Specially formulated oils designed for use in diffusers.

Essential Oil Roll-ons: Serving as toxin-free alternatives to traditional perfumes, these beauties offer a natural fragrance solution. The Jasmine perfume oil is a customer favorite and stands out among the collection.

Aromatherapy Inhalers: Convenient pocket-sized inhalers targeting issues like motion sickness, nausea, mild anxiety, and sleep. Designed for on-the-go support, these inhalers provide a quick relief when needed.

Skincare: I offer three skincare products, a body butter, a face oil, and a body oil, all formulated with a commitment to using only essential ingredients, without any additives. The Face & Decolletage oil is a best seller.

What sets My Aromaz apart is a commitment to purity and authenticity. Unlike some skincare brands that dilute oils with water to reduce costs, I don’t add any ingredient just for the sake of prolonging shelf life or cutting expenses. Adding water to an oil-based serum is really unnecessary and will require a preservative in the blend.

What sets me apart in the aromatherapy world is that I am not an MLM business, I source directly from distilleries and suppliers who are honest and ethical about their business practices and sell directly to customers. Also, being a small business, I make products in small batches which result in clients getting freshly made products that have not been on shelves for months.

I take pride in my commitment to helping with the conservation of rare plants and, of course, in the quality of my products.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
As much as it is beautiful to dive all in, I advise any solopreneur to take one step at a time and to constantly evaluate what’s working and what’s not, and to pivot when necessary. Then reinvest in what proves to be successful, but don’t invest all your capital at the beginning of your journey.

Another advice is although we try to do it all, sourcing out some of the tasks can help you tremendously. I would say look at all the aspects of your business, from marketing, accounting, content creation, and manufacturing, and see which piece you enjoy the least or is not really your strength, and delegate this to experts. Not only would you be bringing expert support to your brand, but this would free some of your time to do more of what you love. Although this is not always an option because of limited budgets, I believe that when you find the right people to help you, this would turn into an investment instead of a cost.

In summary, my advice for new solopreneurs is to approach the journey with a balanced perspective. Take steps, evaluate, and adapt. Don’t exhaust your financial resources prematurely, and consider outsourcing when you can. This hopefully paves the way to sustainable growth and success.
