Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Alik Christiansen of Oceanside

We recently had the chance to connect with Alik Christiansen and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Alik, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Through many iterations of trial and error it feels like my “path” is a path of wander. Im most fulfilled when I can allow myself to find purpose without intention.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alik Christiansen and I own and operate a small catering/pop up business specializing in modern Neapolitan style pizza with my wife Fiona. I’ve been on many paths in life pursuing many careers and last year I made the decision to take a leap and try something on my own. Bruddy’s Pizza is a miracle manifested by a dream, proving that passion and hard work might even pay the bills. I’ve been graced with an amazing support system and community and I’m truly thankful for everyday I get to do what I do. Hopefully one day Bruddy’s will have a storefront to call home and a little league team to sponsor but for now we’re happy being your friendly neighborhood pizza pop up.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Growing up in a household driven by a single mother I learned there is no substitution for hard work and perseverance. Nothing worth having is easy to gain. Nobody’s perfect, we all make mistakes and we get by with a little help from our friends.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of failure is always present and even more so, the fear of poverty. In many cases, society has convinced us that these two things are one and the same which drives people into stable but suffocating professions every day. I’ve learned that you can’t allow fear or money to steer your decisions in life. I truly believe the value of success lies in the ability to do what you love.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Nowadays the media controls how people see the world, sometimes in favor of creators, but it’s important to realize and rememeber the value of your work without it being validated by followers.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
Bruddy’s Pizza is a demonstration in regret. It reminds me every day that even if it all comes crashing down tomorrow, I gave it my all. You will always regret what you never tried, so try it all!
