Bettina Hanna shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Bettina, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I never like to brag about myself but I definitely would hire me. There’s something these days that gets my attention, a lot of people just want to make money or have a regular job to pay the bills. I also have to pay a lot of bills and love making money but I enjoy being productive and I like to give excellence in everything I make. I do make mistakes and I’m not perfect but at least I try to honestly give my best in everything I make and to have my clients happy. If I deliver a video that the client is not absolutely happy, I’m not done then.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m born and raised in Brazil and moved to California in 2009 to study Journalism. I’ve always worked with Communications, as a TV director and filmmaker. I am the head director of a famous reality show in Brazil for Paramount/MTV and in the US I work as a filmmaker producing content for brands, interviews, short documentaries and social media videos. I love what I do because I work with a crew of almost 200 people when im in Brazil and as a filmmaker it’s just me, myself and I so this paradox is pretty interesting.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think I knew my power when I realized I could be and do whatever I wanted if I worked hard. It’s exhausting at times because it feels you have to do a lot in order to achieve something but in reality it gives me energy to keep going and I still like a challenge. I don’t like to be still so I’m always up for the next big project.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say not to take everything so serious…It’s ok to fail sometimes, it’s ok not to have things your way, it’s ok to be frustrated and disappointed.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
It is…Since I work in the entertainment industry and there’s a lot of ego involved, people always think they have to portray a different persona when in public. I feel completely the opposite, I can hang out with a bunch of famous people and still be who I am, I don’t really get overwhelmed in this environment because of their status.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a fun person to hang out with. Either at work or in my personal life I enjoy making people feel good about my presence, I like listening to people and hearing their stories. Even when I’m working, although I have to be tough and firm, I like to have a good atmosphere and having people enjoy their time.
