Danielle Morgan Turner shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Danielle, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Painting. Whenever I’m painting I can lose myself in the moment, especially if I have music playing. A 20 hour paint stretch can feel like 2 hours.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Danielle, but everyone calls me Dannie. I am the Owner and Art Instructor for Booze + Hues by Dannie. Booze + Hues is a concierge paint and sip business. Which is a fancy way of saying I bring the fun to you!
What makes my business so unique is that I have the ability to customize paintings however the client sees fit for the event. I make unique designs that matches the client’s vision and then let the client choose their favorite.
Additionally, We offer different packages/group sessions. We have the traditional Group Session, the fun Date Night Group Session, the intimate Private Date Night Session, as well as our Children’s Parties under our subdivision, Juice + Hues by Dannie.
I started this business because I continued to find myself at a crossroads between working and staying home with my kids. No matter how many times I did the numbers, creating my own path was the only way I could have both. My business (outside of administration) is generally nights and weekends. Giving me my weekdays to be with my kids.
Currently, I’m in an expansion period as well as a transitional period for my Business. While I’m in my Expansion Phase, I want to scale up marketing, products, and hopefully even create jobs for other entrepreneurs. We’re entering a search of transition because Booze + Hues by Dannie will be leaving California by the end of year. So as sad as that will be, I look forward to uncovering new opportunities as well.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This is a great question. I would say, the part of me that has served its purpose would be, my desire to overproduce. I always felt ‘lazy’ if I didn’t create some type of output. However, that drive to do everything, organize events, lead programs, run operations, burned me out. Now that I have a family that I prioritize, I’m realizing I can’t do it all and that’s okay. Asking and RECEIVING help, is okay. Rest is a requirement, not something your body has to physically shut down for to command. So yeah, that version of me served her purpose to get me here, but she can be released now.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
This is so generic but, Be Yourself. It’s hard to remember it, but people love authenticity. Especially in the world you’re growing up in with computers and AI. Confidence is everything and the only way you can radiate unequivocal confidence is by being sure of yourself. Therefore be your most authentic self. The people that are meant to be in your life will be there, and the ones who aren’t, won’t. Don’t shrink yourself or force a connection that’s not for you. It’s more admirable.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Time isn’t linear. I am my past self’s ‘wildest dream’, I am my future self’s ‘prologue’, and I am my present self’s ‘motivation’.
Everyday when I manifest how I want my future to look and make small changes to get there is me setting up life for Future me. I can’t be grateful for where I am without thanking my past versions for believing in me and getting me here. We’re all in the same timeline.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I don’t know if “most people” don’t understand this but what I offer, is a luxury. Hosting a party solely around my service, is a privilege. I do not take that lightly. I treat everyone with a high level of respect and care because this may be a lot of people’s ONLY opportunity to have a fun, personal day. I also don’t do this for the fortune, I do it for the love of painting a to create accessibility. My profit isn’t going towards the idea of becoming the next billionaire. Profit goes towards spirit weeks, birthday parties, and camps. As soon as profit is the only bottom line, humanity is lost.
