We recently had the chance to connect with Jason Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Jason, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I believe that a lot of people expect musicians to play for little to no cost. A lot of time, effort and money go into creating music and when we play out we bring entertainment for the venue and bring people to purchase things they are selling.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the drummer and manager for the San Diego based Hard Rock band “Red as the Sun”. I handle most of the social media, building and maintenance of our band website, handle all the bands finances, do all the recording and mixing of our music and host the band with a pretty decent practice space.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I wouldn’t necessarily say a who but the US Navy taught me how to grow up fast and a strong work ethic. It was important to follow the rules or you could easily get killed. At 18 years old that’s a rude awakening, but I learned fast, and many years later, here I am!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself to think about what you want your future life to look like then write down a plan to get there and focus all your attention on executing it, and I know you can do it!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I’m the same in public and private. I like to show my true self all the time and I think it’s important to do so.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Th last three years have been fantastic since I found the job I figured out I want to do. I’m a process improvement specialist and an instructor and I enjoy seeing that light bulb moment when students start to understand that this really works and can drastically improve your work and life.
