KOAT Records shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning KOAT , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
We’re chasing legacy. We’re chasing impact. At KOAT Records—Kings of All Trades—we’ve been on a mission to build something that’s real, independent, and undeniable. We’ve carved out our own lane, locking in major collaborations with artists like Kung Fu Vampire, Stitches, Danny Diablo, Prolifik, Tony Slippaz, Stacc Styles, and Jojo2Faded. These aren’t just names—they’re proof that we’ve earned respect in and outside our city.
We’ve been getting booked on major stages like The Gathering of the Juggalos. We’ve stayed active and consistent on the digital side, holding 50k to 80k monthly views without a cosign, without a shortcut—just straight grind. And we’ve done it all while staying rooted in San Diego, putting our region on the map in a way nobody else is doing.
If we stopped now, we’d be cutting off a voice that was built to represent the underdogs, the creatives, the ones who had to do it all themselves. We’d be letting go of something bigger than us—this movement we’re building, this culture we’re feeding.
We didn’t start this just to quit. If we stopped, we’d be letting the system win. And that’s not in our DNA. We came to disrupt, to inspire, and to lead. And we’re not slowing down anytime soon.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re KOAT Records—short for Kings of All Trades—an independent powerhouse coming out of San Diego. We’re not just a label, we’re a movement. We specialize in raw, unapologetic hip-hop that blends street energy with creative vision, and we’ve been making noise with features from names like Kung Fu Vampire, Stitches, Danny Diablo, Prolifik, Tony Slippaz, Stacc Styles, and Jojo2Faded.
What makes us unique is that we wear every hat—artist, executive, promoter, designer, and strategist. We built this brand from the ground up with no handouts, and everything you see is the result of hustle, passion, and a refusal to follow trends. We’ve been putting on for San Diego in a real way, staying consistent on social platforms with 50-80k monthly views, and locking in major bookings like The Gathering of the Juggalos.
Right now, we’re focused on expanding our catalog, growing our brand presence, and continuing to collaborate with artists who match our intensity. We’re also building platforms for the next wave of artists to shine through our label and partnerships.
KOAT Records is here to shift the culture—not fit into it. If you’re looking for something real, something self-made, something built off grit and vision—this is it.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that really shaped how we see the world was realizing no one’s coming to save us. No big label, no handout, no easy path. That realization hit hard—but it also lit a fire. It made us shift from waiting on opportunities to creating our own. That’s when KOAT Records was born—not just as a label, but as a mindset.
We stopped looking for approval and started building something that couldn’t be ignored. It changed how we move, how we work, and how we see everything. Now we look at the world through the lens of self-reliance, ownership, and legacy. That mindset is what keeps us hungry, sharp, and focused on the long game.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yeah—there was a time early on when we were just starting KOAT Records, and most people didn’t take it seriously. But one of our first major collaborations—we sat down with an artist who had already been in the game, and instead of brushing us off, he really listened. Not just to the music, but to the vision. He saw the hunger, the strategy, the purpose behind what we were building.
That moment showed us the power of being heard—not just as artists, but as leaders with a blueprint. It reminded us that sometimes, all it takes is one person to believe in what you’re doing to fuel a whole movement. And ever since then, we’ve made it a point to listen to others the same way—especially the ones coming up.
Because when someone truly listens, it can shift everything.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One truth we live by—but rarely say out loud—is that no one owes you anything. Respect, support, opportunity—none of it is guaranteed. You have to earn it every single day. That mindset keeps us grounded and hungry. It’s easy to get caught up in comparisons or entitlement, but we remind ourselves constantly: if we don’t build it, no one will.
Another one is: real loyalty is rare, and it’s everything. In this industry—and in life—you learn quick who’s around for the shine and who’s there for the struggle. We don’t take loyalty lightly, and we never forget the ones who stuck around before the wins.
And finally: art is survival. Music isn’t just something we do—it’s how we process pain, celebrate wins, and leave something behind. We don’t always say it, but that’s the core of what drives KOAT Records.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
We’re doing what we were born to do—no question. Nobody told us to build a label from scratch, to grind without a cosign, or to take risks on our own terms. In fact, most people told us the opposite: “Get a real job,” “Stay in your lane,” “You can’t make it without a major deal.” But we never listened. We chose our own path.
KOAT Records was built on vision, not permission. This isn’t some fallback plan or side hustle—this is purpose. We were born to create, to lead, to put others on, and to carve out a lane for the underdogs. Everything we’ve done—from the stages we’ve hit to the numbers we’ve pulled—is proof that we’re walking in our calling, not someone else’s expectations.
