Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Liv Probe of Mission Valley

We recently had the chance to connect with Liv Probe and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Liv, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about being a makeup artist is that it’s all glitz and glam; like I just show up, play with makeup, and go home. But behind the scenes, I’m wearing all the hats. I’m the artist, the scheduler, the marketer, the admin, the cleaner, the accountant…you name it. There are long days with weddings or back-to-back clients, and even longer nights answering emails, cleaning my kit, or prepping for the next day. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but it’s definitely not as effortless as it might sound!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Liv, a professional makeup artist based in San Diego. I specialize in soft glam and love creating looks that make people feel like the most elevated version of themselves…whether it’s for a wedding, a shoot, or just a night out. My brand, Livie’s Looks, is all about enhancing natural beauty while keeping things luxe, effortless, and personal.
I’ve built my business from the ground up, and I do it all; glamming, scheduling, marketing, emails, content… you name it. What makes my work special is the connection I build with my clients. It’s not just about the makeup, it’s about the experience, the vibe, and helping people feel confident and seen. Right now, I’m focused on growing my brand, creating more content, and continuing to work with amazing clients who inspire me daily!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my earliest memories of feeling powerful was when I graduated high school a year early. I was young, super driven, and had this deep knowing that I was ready to start carving my own path. Looking back, that moment really shaped the way I move through life and business now. If I want something, I figure out a way to make it happen. It was definitely a “wow, I really did that” kind of moment.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self, “If you have a dream, go for it and don’t worry about having every step mapped out! You don’t need to know exactly how it’s going to happen. Just keep showing up, keep working, and trust that you’ll get there in your own time. Things will fall into place, even when it doesn’t feel like it. You’re way more capable, creative, and resilient than you think, and the life you want is possible.”

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Something I’m super committed to, no matter how long I’m in this industry, is cleanliness and sanitation. It might not be the “glam” part of being a makeup artist, but it’s non-negotiable for me. I don’t cut corners when it comes to hygiene…EVER! My clients trust me to provide a safe, professional experience, and that means using clean brushes, disinfecting my products, and keeping everything as sanitary as possible. It’s a standard I’ve held from day one, and I’ll never compromise on it.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Oh, 100% I’m doing what I was born to do. I’ve loved makeup for as long as I can remember. I got my first makeup set when I was 4 years old, and I was instantly obsessed. Makeup has always been something that made me feel excited, creative, and confident. No one told me to do this, it’s just always been a part of me. I feel really lucky that I get to turn that childhood obsession into a career where I help other people feel their best, too.
