Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Monica Friedrichs

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Monica Friedrichs. Check out our conversation below.

Monica , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, my biggest source of joy is my growing little family! Our 14-month-old son keeps life busy, fun, and full of laughs—he’s pure joy. And with another baby boy on the way this November, my heart (and hands!) are fuller than ever. It’s a wild, sweet season, and I’m soaking up every bit of it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Monica, the founder and creative mind behind Pallet to Palate. I absolutely love what I do—bringing people together through beautifully curated, custom charcuterie boards right here in sunny San Diego. Whether it’s a birthday, bridal shower, baby shower, open house, wedding cocktail hour, corporate event, or just because—it’s always the right time for a great spread!

What makes Pallet to Palate special is that every board is completely tailored to you and your event. I personally come on-site and build the board right there, so all you need to do is provide the space—we’ll handle the rest. It’s art you can eat, and I’m so lucky to call this my job!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with God has been the foundation of how I see myself. Knowing who I am in Christ gives me confidence and security in who He created me to be. It grounds me, guides me, and reminds me of my purpose—both personally and in my work.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: Do what you love and keep good people close—those who lift you up and cheer you on. Life’s too short to waste on anything less.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in this industry is: “You’re not good enough—someone else is already doing it, and doing it better.” That mindset is toxic. There’s room for everyone at the table, and what makes you different is exactly why someone will choose you. No one can bring your flavor to the board!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I can honestly say I’m doing what I was created to do—because it doesn’t feel like work! Every event I get to be a part of is completely unique—from the location, the florals, and the charcuterie choices to the amazing people I get to serve. It’s creative, personal, and just plain fun.

I was actually an elementary school teacher before this, and I loved that chapter of my life. But now, running my own business gives me the freedom to build my schedule around what matters most—my family. I have a 14-month-old son and another baby boy on the way this November, and I’m so grateful that my “job” lets me balance passion and motherhood in such a fulfilling way.
