Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Pako Pablos of Escondido

We recently had the chance to connect with Pako Pablos and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Pako, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
This year has been a defining chapter in my mission to connect nations through art. On June 1st, 2025, the City of Escondido, California, proclaimed the Día de Pako Pablos, honoring my work in bridging cultures and fostering community through creativity.

Just weeks earlier, I brought “Iconos: una exhibición pictórica interactiva” to the Cámara de Diputados in Mexico City — an exhibition that symbolically linked the heart of Mexico’s legislature with the vibrant community of Escondido. More than a showcase, it became the launchpad for the first-ever nationwide Digital Art Contest in Mexico, inviting artists from across the country to explore the intersection of art, technology, and cultural identity.

Both moments share a single purpose: to prove that art has the power to dissolve borders, spark dialogue, and create lasting connections between people and nations. My work is not only about images on a canvas — it’s about building cultural bridges that carry ideas, opportunities, and unity across continents.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Pako Pablos, a contemporary mixed media artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, whose journey has taken me from the basketball court to the global art stage. My work blends traditional techniques with digital innovation, creating vibrant portraits and cultural icons that have been exhibited in cities like Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, New York, and Shenzhen.

Through Pako Pablos Studios, my mission is simple but powerful: to use art as a universal language that connects nations, cultures, and generations. What makes my brand unique is the way I merge storytelling, technology, and pop culture into interactive, immersive experiences — turning art into a bridge between worlds.

Beyond the canvas, my clothing and lifestyle brand has become a favorite among athletes and celebrities worldwide, celebrated for its striking designs and urban fusion of cultures. Each piece carries the same energy as my art — bold, culturally rich, and impossible to ignore.

As a creative advisor, I’ve collaborated with a wide range of entities — from cultural institutions to private brands — to design opportunities in an out-of-the-box, cutting-edge style that breaks conventional boundaries and sparks new ways of thinking.

This year, I was honored with the Día de Pako Pablos proclamation in Escondido, California, and brought my exhibition “Iconos” to the Cámara de Diputados in Mexico City, which also became the launchpad for Mexico’s first nationwide Digital Art Contest. Right now, I’m focused on expanding these cultural exchanges, inspiring new generations of artists, and building projects that prove creativity knows no borders.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people, in my experience, almost always comes down to trust and respect. Trust isn’t lost in one big, dramatic moment — it usually erodes through small, repeated actions, or worse, promises that are never kept. Respect disappears the same way, often when words stop matching actions.

I believe that if you say you’re going to do something, you do it. No excuses, no delays. It’s not about perfection — it’s about integrity. When you follow through, you’re telling the other person, “Your time and trust matter to me.”

The same applies to the little things, because they’re not really little at all. Showing up to a meeting on time is more than punctuality; it’s a quiet act of respect that says, “I value you enough to honor our commitment.” Being prepared, listening fully, following up — these are the bricks that rebuild trust and strengthen connections.

In my work — whether it’s launching an art exhibition, collaborating with a city, or advising a brand — these principles are non-negotiable. Creativity can connect nations, but it’s trust and respect that keep those connections alive.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Soak it up and don’t dwell on it kid, the future is bright.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
The power of the mind with positive thinking

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What false labels are you still carrying?
One false label I’m still carrying is the idea that I’m “just a portrait artist.” I understand where it comes from — my portraits have gained global recognition, they’ve been collected by celebrities, exhibited internationally, and become a signature style people instantly associate with me. But just because I’m known for it doesn’t mean it’s all I do.

What I bring to the table goes far beyond a single medium or subject. I’m a mixed media innovator, blending traditional art with digital techniques to create immersive, interactive experiences. I’m a creative advisor, helping brands, cities, and institutions think outside the box and develop cutting-edge cultural projects. I’m an entrepreneur, building a clothing and lifestyle brand that’s become a favorite among athletes and celebrities for its bold designs and fusion of cultures. I’m also a cultural connector, using my platform to bridge communities — from launching Mexico’s first nationwide Digital Art Contest to creating exhibitions that link cities like Escondido and Mexico City.

Yes, I paint portraits — and I’m proud of the impact they’ve had — but my mission is much larger: to push creativity into new spaces, create opportunities for others, and use art as a tool for unity, innovation, and cultural exchange.
