We’re looking forward to introducing you to Semaj Melson. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Semaj, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A recent moment that made me very proud was when I went to visit my hometown, wearing my new official merch and many peers/close friends I grew up with told me how I inspire them. Some of the people who told me that were people who I looked up to myself, hearing that from them meant a lot.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello they call me SmashGoingGlobal. L I Model, Make a music, act, and do content creation. I come from a small city called Salinas California. I now reside in San Diego, but carry my roots everywhere I go. Something about me is I didn’t blame God for the cards. I was dealt I used all of them to my advantage. My goal and what I stand for, what my brand stands for and why I attached global to my name is to become an international superstar, inspiring all the kids who come from small towns, small cities, maybe haven’t seen anybody ever make it for where they’re from to chase their dreams and go GLOBAL.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say William “Billy” Carter. Billy himself is a successful manager of content creators and a great content creator himself, when I first came to San Diego and got a job at a nightclub. Billy was my manager and he saw my posts and motivated me to continue working on them and also opened as many doors as he possibly could for me. I can’t thank him enough for that. I always felt, I was a special individual but with the confidence he put in me confirmed it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering and struggling taught me true resilience. I failed so many times. I was pushed to the edge of quitting, doubted by what felt like everyone, even teachers and former managers told me because of where I’m from and my upbringing that I would never make it. It used to eat me alive but I could never shake the feeling that this is my purpose. Growing up without a silver spoon made me so hungry and gave an understanding and relatability to different people of all angles which allowed me to build the relationships that got me where I’m at today. I noticed that majority of people that grew up well off were comfortable, my early struggles are what made me motivated to out work everyone
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family. Those closest to me know I grew up with just my mother, step father. No cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents were in the same state. My friends became my family, and they mean the world to me
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That small steps accumulate overtime. I believe majority of our generation gets lost in instant gratification and what they see others have on social media. All you can truly do is work with what you’ve got. I moved into a new city, knowing absolutely no one, doing the same things I was doing where I lived before. I kept improving myself and my craft little by little every day and after all the years blood sweat and tears, I have made a name for myself, and I have no intentions of stopping now. This is for everyone on their journey, you are closer than you have ever been in your life before. Why turn around and stop now? keep going.
