Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Summer Angel-Hamideh of Chula Vista

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Summer Angel-Hamideh. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Summer, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
One of the things I’m most proud of building is our print shop. It’s something that exists quietly behind the scenes, but it represents a huge step forward for us. We wanted our photos to live beyond screens, to be held, framed, gifted, or become part of someone’s home. There’s something really meaningful about seeing our work in the physical world, not just on social media or in a gallery delivery.

It took a lot of research, testing, and refining to create a shop that felt aligned with our brand and made it easy for clients to bring their favorite moments or memories to life. Every time someone orders a print, I feel proud, not just of the image, but of the system we built to make that experience seamless and special. It’s a quiet kind of success, but one that means a lot.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! We’re Summer (they/she) and Ruben (he/him), the duo behind Angelhamidehphotos. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a passion-driven business rooted in connection, joy, and authenticity.

We specialize in capturing real, candid moments, the kind that make life feel big, even in the smallest details. With two sets of eyes and one shared goal, we’re all about making people feel seen and celebrated, exactly as they are. Whether it’s a proposal, graduation, or just an ordinary day spent with people you love, we show up with open hearts and good energy to document the real stuff.

Our approach is playful, inclusive, and feel-good. We use prompts and lighthearted direction to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Whether that means getting goofy, getting cozy, or just being in the moment. The result is photos that not only look beautiful but feel like you.

Right now, we’re especially excited about growing our print shop and finding new ways to bring our work into the physical world. There’s something powerful about preserving memories in a tangible, lasting way, and we’re honored to be a part of that.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Starting a business with my partner definitely shaped how I see the world, how I approach work, creativity, and connection. Our motto is “the best memories are made when you’re having fun,” and we try to embody that in every step of the process. Whether it’s creating content for social media, chatting with potential clients, the actual moment of getting together during a shoot, or the behind-the-scenes work that happens in post, we always try to bring lightness and joy into it.

It’s easy to get caught up in the stress and overwhelm of running a small business, but doing this with my partner opened my eyes to our strengths as a team. We remind each other to not just capture joy, but to live in it too. That shift in perspective has really changed the way I move through the world, both personally and professionally.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
For us, the “defining wounds” have been pretty literal with recovering from ACL surgeries. I had mine in October 2024, and Ruben just had his this past July. Recovering from something that forces you to slow down and rebuild from the ground up changes you. We had to completely restructure our routines and focus on regaining not just our physical strength, but also our patience and resilience as a team.

That experience taught us the value of stepping back in certain areas so we could come back stronger where it matters most. In our business, that’s meant shifting energy toward things like growing our print shop and refining our voice on social media. Finding ways of connecting with clients that keep our brand vibrant and personal, even when we can’t be physically everywhere at once. We’ve learned that chasing perfect isn’t the point. What matters most is showing up with intention, care, and joy no matter the circumstances.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honestly, they’d say we care way more about connection than perfection. Like, we might be out there shooting a wedding while figuring out how to squeeze pants over an ACL brace or switching gears in the moment because the tide’s too high. Life throws all kinds of curveballs, and we just roll with it.

Whether it’s a huge event or just an ordinary day, everyone deserves to be seen and celebrated. We want every shoot to feel fun and welcoming. A space where you can be your real, messy, happy self. No fake smiles or forced laughs we’re all about capturing the moments that actually feel like you.

And outside the shoot, we’re the kind of people who bring a little lightheartedness and goofiness wherever we go, the kind who make it easy to just relax and be part of the moment, no matter who you are.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
When things start feeling overwhelming or I hear that little voice inside asking, “Am I really in over my head here?” that’s when I remind myself it’s okay not to have all the answers. I choose to lean on my partner, other professionals, or even turn to YouTube to relearn some things. For us, teamwork is everything. It keeps our work real and helps us stay grounded.

Those moments push us to grow. They’re a chance to stay curious, flexible, and show up fully. We’ve learned we’re not aiming for perfection; instead, we aim to be present, embrace the messy parts, and create meaningful, joyful art.
