Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Suni Gargaro of Del Mar, CA

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Suni Gargaro. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Suni, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, what’s been bringing me the most joy outside of my business is teaching kids yoga and mindfulness. I started with just one school, and it’s grown organically — now I’m teaching in multiple schools and reaching more children than I ever imagined. Seeing the kids come back to my classes’ semester after semester, remembering what they’ve learned and showing genuine excitement to be there, fills my heart. Watching them develop awareness, confidence, and calm through yoga has been incredibly rewarding.”
It’s a powerful reminder of how early mindfulness can positively shape young lives.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Suni, the founder of Sunia Yoga — a mindful lifestyle brand born from my passion for yoga, wellness, and conscious living. What started as a yoga-focused activewear line has grown into something much more dynamic. We’ve expanded our collection to include sportswear for all kinds of movement — from boxing and running to gym workouts — designed to be both functional and affordable. I wanted to create pieces that support an active lifestyle with high-quality fabrics, a wider range of solid colors, and fresh, versatile styles that make people feel confident both on and off the mat.

Beyond apparel, we also offer authentic sound healing instruments from Tibet, connecting people to the deeper, more spiritual side of wellness. At its core, Sunia Yoga is about balance — blending strength and mindfulness, movement and stillness, style and soul.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was when I decided to leave my day job and follow my passion — my dharma. It was a leap of faith, but it taught me that alignment is more powerful than comfort. Choosing to live with purpose, to build something rooted in mindfulness and authenticity, completely changed how I view success. It reminded me that when you follow what feels true to your soul, the universe has a way of guiding and supporting you.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
Something I miss that not many people know about is an opportunity I once had to collaborate with Halle Berry’s team for a campaign. It didn’t end up working out at the time — I was still at the very beginning of my business journey, and in hindsight, the timing just wasn’t right. It was a valuable lesson in patience, preparation, and trusting the process. I truly believe everything happens when it’s meant to, and I am grateful that our paths aligned at that time and it will again one day. She loves our brand and our brand’s mission.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is staying true to the roots of yoga and my heritage from Kerala, India. Yoga originated in India as a sacred philosophy and way of life — not just a form of exercise. Over the years, I’ve seen it become commercialized and, at times, misinterpreted in the West. I’ve even come across classes and schools where Sanskrit chants and mantras were being used or translated incorrectly, which can distort their true meaning.

Having grown up surrounded by the authentic teachings of yoga, I feel a deep responsibility to honor its essence — mindfulness, self-awareness, and spiritual connection. Yoga is an internal journey; no machine or shortcut can open your chakras for you. It’s your own breath, body, and discipline that create transformation. Preserving that authenticity is something I will always stand for.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
“I feel most at peace during my early morning meditations, around 4 a.m. It’s the quietest, most sacred time of the day — before the world wakes up. In that stillness, I can truly connect with myself and the energy around me. It’s when I feel grounded, centered, and deeply aligned — a moment of pure clarity and peace.”
