Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tejah Monae of Southern California

We recently had the chance to connect with Tejah Monae and have shared our conversation below.

Tejah , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recent moments that’s made me feel proud are staying consistent when it comes to my brand, business and vision. It’s makes me proud due to all the hard work and initiative to stay diligent in expanding with it’s rapid growth, it’s not easy at all especially when others don’t understand how much hard work and dedication it takes. This generation has forgotten that a journey is worth the wait, not everything comes easy. You have to be prepared for ups, downs and setbacks but always move forward with confidence in believing that everything will work out because IT WILL.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always set myself apart by being myself and always leading, never following. Since a young soul, I’ve been very direct about what I want in life. As a kid, you’d think you would change and grow into loving something else but my mind was always set on things that brought and captured beauty. The world doesn’t tell you who you have to be, it shapes you into the person you’re supposed to become. You live and learn from any mistakes, positive or negative situations and trials that will either make or break you. It’s your decision to take anything you’ve been through and make it a token to staying strong and dedicated to who you are. Don’t make any excuses, just change your value and it’ll bring clarity to you as a person.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s always times where I feel like giving up, then I remember I’m doing it for myself and a better outlook on life, to secure my peace within and with God. No matter how hard it may seem, you always have to keep going even if you don’t know the outcome of what will happen. Staying dedicated towards how driven I am has always been a positive outcome, even if I don’t see fast results I see results that are building self- awareness, growth and confidence.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie my industry tells itself is that you have to have it all “figured out”. Social media has drained everyone in thinking there’s always something better when in reality you shouldn’t focus on what others have or what it may seem they have. The internet is a facade, focus on what’s meant for you. We are still humans and consistently developing new skills and thoughts everyday. Sometimes we want to change who we are to perfect who we want to become and what we want in life. No one is every truly satisfied but you have to stay true to your plan, remember things take time and you don’t have to have it all figured out overnight. Just trust in your process and don’t compare your success to anyone else. We all go through things, no one is perfect.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think people will always misunderstand how long it takes to build a legacy, to stand on everything you’ve wanted for so long because you didn’t have the right guidance. How long it takes to teach yourself, to keep yourself educated and aware, to let others perceive you as anything they want because you chose not to care. It’s hard to do it alone, there’s tough battles, there’s betrayal, there’s no belief or no easy system. You have to be ready it for it all, conquer from within.
