We recently had the chance to connect with Victoria Heydari and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes, I have been. Through all the years of working at many different spas it has helped me to understand how a successful business works. I’ve seen many up’s and downs of a business. I learned what to do and what not to do to have it be successful. All these lessons have lead to me to having a business that I‘m very proud of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Victoria Heydari. I’ve been an Aesthetician for 42 years, and started as a pre-med student. I fell in love with skin because it’s the biggest organ in our body. I decided to start aesthetician school and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it since day one.
I have worked at so many different places throughout the years with plastic surgeons, med spa’s,
day spa’s, hotel spa’s, Hollywood studios (as a makeup artist),
spa director, and lead esthetician until I finally opened my private practice in 2019.
The following year I was closed by Covid and I survived because my clients that I’ve had for years were very patient and waited for me to reopen again. I’m very lucky and grateful that I didn’t have to close my business permanently like a lot of colleagues did, unfortunately.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Dad, he was my biggest fan. He always told me that I could do anything I want but I have to want it with all my heart. He was very proud of the woman I’ve become. I lost my Dad in 2013. Now I have my own family with my husband of 32 years and my 2 kids that are currently in their late twenties.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
For 20 years I have been working full time and I have fibromyalgia, but been busy doing what I love to do. So much, that it relaxes me, and it helps my pain so much that my clients don’t even notice.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Well, when you finish school they tell you that you will make great money and that’s not true. It takes years to build clients so you can make sufficient money, but you definitely have to be patient.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel so peaceful when I’m at work. The 60 minute sessions that I spend with each client is so relaxing for me. Even if I’m having a relatively bad day; I start working and it feels so good that all the stress of life dissipates. It’s the music, the smell of products, camaraderie with my clients, and essential oils. Everything about my line of work makes my day better.
