Life and Work with Adria Higginson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adria Higginson.

Adria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mom influencer story began in 2013 when I decided to start a new chapter of my life by leaving my job as a COO of an advertising agency to become a stay at home mom. It was such a huge change. The first three months, I questioned my decision every day. I went from a hustle bustle environment where I accomplished goals, met deadlines, helped run a successful agency where I received praise and acknowledgment for my hard work to a very lonesome with no social interaction environment. It can be very lonely staying at home especially when you have a 6-month-old baby. But that’s when I discovered Instagram and the amazing mom community within the app. I’ve always loved taking pictures, so I began documenting life at home with my daughter. And along the way, I met some amazing women who were in the same exact situation I was in. I found a support system with mothers all over the world. I began using hashtags in my posts which helped to grow my following and meet more people from all over. And then brands and companies started to reach out asking if I would like to work with them on collaborations. And that all leads to my present day and being a mom influencer on Instagram.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In any environment, there are always up and downs. It’s easy to start comparing yourself to other photographers, moms, lifestyles, etc. As they say “comparison is the thief of joy”. I started to venture down that road but snapped out of it because I quickly realized that Instagram is a highlight reel not the real day to day life. Just like myself, people show the good and happy times, not the bad and hard times. So, my advice to any women starting their journey on Instagram would be to focus on themselves, find the joy in YOUR life and do your best not to compare yourselves to others. Just remember, we all have our wonderful days and our not so wonderful days… we just tend to photograph and talk about the good not the bad.

Please tell us about your business.
As a mom influencer, companies and brands will reach out to me asking me or my kids to try out their products and in return, they ask that I post about it on my Instagram account. I’m very selective about who I work with because my honesty and integrity is something that I hold dear to my heart. If a company reaches out to me and I feel that their product is not a fit for my family I will always say “thank you but no thank you”.

Who have you been inspired by?
There are some amazing women that I’ve met through Instagram. And I consider myself very lucky to call them my real friends. Some of my favorites would be:

Desiree Macke @desireemacke – She finds the most beautiful and colorful walls/murals.

Gabi Flores @gabigrillo – She has helped me so much to navigate through this mom influencer world. She also gives the best advice and is willing to help anyone who reaches out to her.

Roze @dear.younger.self – The advice she gives to her “younger self” is so spot on. She has such a beautiful soul too. And her IG stories are so entertaining.

There are so many I want to share, so I’ll leave a few more IG handles here: @weekendfamgoals @jonnamicoud @mothermystical @lorijson
