Life and Work with Alexes Monique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexes Monique.

Alexes, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in South Bay San Diego by an eclectic family and was always surrounded by music and culture, so naturally my outlets developed through just that. I began singing and DJing for local gigs and decided to start a women’s collective, Queendom Tribe, with my friend Lexy Love. Our goal was to highlight local ladies’ talents and unite through creativity so we teamed up with a few of our friends and began curating events in the Barrio Logan art scene, such as clothing swaps, women’s empowerment fundraisers, and also henna workshops, where i would teach all the how-to’s from my henna business, Henna Plant Magic. I have been practicing the art of henna for the last seven years, hosting events, private parties, private appointments, festivals, and farmers markets. I love adorning and interacting with my clients, and the beautiful exchange of energy through this process. Being a full-time homemaker, mommy of three beautiful boys and wife to my amazing husband is my motivation to thrive in my creative endeavors.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a devoted mother of three can definitely pose its challenges and I’ve had to make many, many sacrifices along the way. More times than not, I’ve had to put my passions, projects and career path on hold.
As a creative person, you tend to feel like you always have to be actively pumping out content, but that’s not always realistic or wise. There are seasons to life and we are called to ride the ebb and flow of the waves. Whenever I start to feel anxious because I’m not actively creating something or knees deep in another project, I have to remind myself that raising my little gentlemen IS the most important project I’ll ever be knees deep in. These fundamental years are the most important and leave the most lasting imprint on their souls than at any other time in their life. So, my children always come first, and it’s important for me to be 100% present for them. As challenging as it can get at times, I am proud to have the honor of motherhood!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Queendom Tribe & Henna Plant Magic – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My passion for connecting with other women has driven me to my creative mediums. Be it through henna, motherhood, curating events, creating a social media platform to connect and relate though, I find the ritual of sisterhood to be so life-giving. I love to hear their stories, all so different but with a similar thread that runs through and connects us all.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe that the current climate for women all over the world is buzzing with limitless opportunity. There is pulsating feminine energy that is awakening all over the planet. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us and honored to be a part of that evolution.
