Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Amato.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always knew I wanted to be in hospitality related careers at that would eventually lead to travel in my business. At 16 years old, I started as a hostess at Chilis and worked my way up, serving and bartending for various restaurants until I was 26 years old. I then decided I wanted to get into the hotel business as I saw there were travel opportunities and career advancements that would challenge me more than a restaurant, and I began my first hotel job at 27 years old. Throughout all of my restaurant and hotel experience, not to mention my family is Italian and we LOVE to eat, I became fascinated with all the new trends of cocktails and food. I began obsessing over taking pictures of what I ate and drank, in order to capture the memories and be able to share my experiences with others. After a few months of posting on Instagram, Shelby reached me out to from the @SoCalbloggerbabes and she asked me if I was interested in joining. I then ventured into this new and exciting world of blogging where I continue to learn something new every day and become inspired by other women and influencers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a struggle! If you started a few years ago, your following should be robust, however in the past year or so, growing a following on social media channels has become so popular, it’s hard to distinguish who’s following you to be genuine or who are following you just to get a follow back. I try to be consistent and genuine in the delivery of my stories which I believe helps to connect with my audience. I post all stories in real time, which I know many bloggers will go back, and post in later time. I want my followers to experience what I am experiencing at the same moment as me, and that is extremely important to me. I also feel that being connected to a group of influencers is also important. It assists you to build friendships and have others around you who understand the importance of what you are trying to achieve.
Please tell us about Full of Sips.
I have a Food and Cocktail blog and I LOVE reviewing restaurants and bars! I post a lot of craft cocktails, and farm to table meals that are all presentable. I give recommendations for restaurants in the areas I see and give my honest opinion of the quality of food and drink and let them know what I didn’t like as well (in the nicest way possible of course). I would say that I am most known for brunch spots and have hit many in the OC and SD area! I feel set myself apart as although I post mostly food and cocktails, I also like to mix in travel, products, and style, so I can reach a more diverse audience.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I work with tons of apps! I use UNUM to style my feed before posting which is fantastic! This allows me to see what my feed will look like before actually posting so I can stay unison. I also use UNUM to brighten my food pictures or sharpen, if needed, for portrait style posts. I use Facetune, which can get rid of that unwanted pimple, or add some blush to a pale face. I try not to edit my pictures too much, as I mostly use a professional camera for my pictures, but sometimes it is needed! I also would never be able to live without my Canon EOS app, which allows me to download my pictures straight from my camera to my phone using blue tooth!
