Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely it has not been a smooth road for me. I have had to conquer multiple obstacles from companies closing down, and being left without a job to having to find another job to be able to pay my bills. No matter what the situation was, I always sat back and thought about what I needed to do, then proceed to get it done. My best advice to anyone going through a hard time or obstacles is always have your blueprint. Meaning, write everything down and follow your blueprint to achieve it. First, you have to write down what is the bare minimum of monthly income you need to make in order to survive. This includes all your monthly bills and food expenses. Then, you need to find a job or close as many deals as it takes to make more than the bare minimum amount you need to survive. Once you accomplish your blueprint, you times it by 3 and then do it again until you reach the main goal, which is financial freedom.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Realtor. I specialize in helping anyone who is looking to buy, sell, or invest in real estate. I am known as someone who is able to make your real estate experience as memorable and stress-free as possible. I always go above and beyond for all of my clients. I am always available for my clients at any time of the day if they have any questions, but I also partner up with great vendors who also go above and beyond for our clients. The client’s experience runs so smooth knowing they have a great team behind them. One thing that sets me apart from others is being able to assist the Hispanic/Latino community as much as I do. My career has given me the opportunity to travel and get to know first hand how other agencies/companies work, in which I have been able to refer to my clients. Also, if my clients are in a difficult situation to accomplish their real estate goals, I have the experience to be able to assist them in achieving their goal.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Finding a mentor is very important. It does not matter if you are new or a veteran in the industry. You always want to find someone to hold you accountable to your business. Best thing to do is to talk to anyone in your office, or anyone in the industry and get different opinions and see who they recommend. Whichever mentor you decide on choosing, make sure they are there for you, you understand what they are communicating to you, and that they have had the experience themselves. There are many mentors out there, but make sure you work with the one that you can relate to the most, the one that speaks to you, and you feel that connection and that confidence. I found my mentor, by talking to someone else within my office. That person introduced me to my new mentor and I have then since better structured my business.
