Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Allie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a small town in Ohio, went to college in Florida, lived in Arizona, and then finally settled down in Southern California. After graduating from college, I was searching for a creative outlet, which is how my life and style blog LunaVida came to life. It’s been over 5.5 years since I wrote my first post, and I’m still learning from this experience. I most enjoy blogging because I can share my passion for vegan and cruelty-free living, whether it be through fashion, travel or food.
Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t always a smooth road and I honestly, had no clue what I was doing when I started LunaVida! At the time, I was a recent grad who enjoyed reading blogs; however, I also found so many of them to be kind of unrealistic for someone in their early 20s. Therefore, I decided my blog would focus on affordable fashion for those of us who were on a budget. As I grew older though, my interests continued to expand. The topics I now focus on include plant-based living and travel.
My advice to anyone wanting to blog is to focus on why you wanted to begin in the first place because that will be the driving force to keep going when times get stressful. Also, this may be cliche – but it doesn’t make it any less true – HAVE FUN. Whether you see your blog as a hobby, a full-time job or something in between, it’s vital to find ways to refocus and make sure you still enjoy doing it. Loving what you do will keep you going for the long haul.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with LunaVida – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My day jobs since college have been working for nonprofits, and I especially love animal welfare. That may seem like an odd match from someone who writes a life and style blog, but I think it actually makes total sense. I got involved in the nonprofit sector because I wanted a career that would help make our world a better place. When I stop working though, my activism doesn’t just suddenly shut off – which is why I decided to include more of that part of my life on LunaVida.
I used to be afraid to share even more of myself so publicly, but it is who I really am. My love for our planet and its creatures is all-encompassing in my life, so why would I leave that out of my own blog? I’m proud to be vegan for the animals and am so happy with how it has impacted my everyday life. I love sharing that passion too, in hopes to inspire others to consider more plant-based and cruelty-free choices in their own lives.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Take the time to discover your true passion. Despite what so many of us are told growing up, don’t focus on chasing money. Yes, of course, it’s important to be self-sufficient and financially secure. What is even more important than a big house and fancy cars though, is a lifetime of doing work you love. You can’t take materials belongings with you – but you can leave a legacy that changes that world for the better when you do what you love.
