Life and Work with Chelsea Caddick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Caddick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chelsea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Of course! Well, as a young girl, I was inspired and thrilled with hair and makeup looks from magazines, and pretty much anyone that was wearing some kind of makeup that caught my eye.

Once I reached high school, my vision was set on becoming a stylist. I enrolled in school and never looked back. Although there were moments when I questioned my dreams, I didn’t have the heart to fully pursue anything else and call it quits.

I joke to my clients that I have many anniversaries of my business: 2010, when I started school; 2012, when I started working on weddings; and 2014 when I fully committed to growing Chelsea Rose Beauty.

It’s been a long journey with my dream to be a hair & makeup artist, but it’s blossomed and taken on a life of its own with a more clear cut vision of beautifying brides for a very special day in their lives. It is so special for me to be a part in that!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Omigoodness! There were so many moments I wasn’t sure about how I would make rent that month, and frankly, I had to move back home a time or two because doing makeup for free in LA didn’t pay the bills!

The best advice I could have given myself back then is to set clear intentions and believe in yourself! The moment I trusted my worth as an artist and defined my vision, that is when I saw myself start to succeed.

Please tell us about Chelsea Rose Beauty.
Chelsea Rose Beauty is a mobile hair & makeup company that specializes in bridal and portrait makeup, servicing clients who want to look like the best version of themselves.

What sets me apart is my attitude, work ethic, and my airbrush machine! I come to every wedding or photo shoot with a positive attitude, patience, and kindness, I am always attaining knowledge on products and styles so I can grow as an artist and to better service my clients and assist in their beauty lifestyle. I offer airbrush makeup that is suitable for every skin type, it is breathable and practically weightless! I hear a lot of feedback from my brides and bridesmaids that their application feels barely there, but looks flawless!

Fun fact: I just started sending Appalachian Wildlife Refuge (a non-profit for rehabilitating injured or orphaned wildlife) my used (then cleaned) mascara wands from my makeup kit so they can groom the little animals!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Having a mentor with any kind of business is always a good idea. Why go it alone and make the mistakes that could be avoided if you just listen to your peers and learn from the wise! I admit, I’m terrible at going out and networking, however, I still do it every day. Nowadays, you can network online through every social media platform, and make connections just by talking to someone at the grocery store (I once had a cashier ask for my business card within a 2-minute conversation!). People want to connect and share their wisdom, so just do it!
