Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Ferguson.
Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story started 11 years ago when I was in my early twenties. I was significantly overweight and had low self-confidence. A company that I worked for during that time in my life offered a gym membership as part of their benefits package. The gym membership was free as long as we provided our check-in history showing that we went a minimum of four days per week. I kept up with my routine of going four to five days per week, but like most new gym members I had no idea what I was doing. A couple of months went by and I became frustrated because I was no longer seeing any results with just the cardio that I was doing. I made the leap of faith and decided to have a consultation with a personal trainer. That was the best decision and investment that I could have EVER made for myself. In a matter of a couple of weeks, I started to see results. A few years went by, I brought my weight down from 220 pounds down to 155 and found new confidence in myself that I had never seen before. At that moment, I knew in the back of my head that this “fit life” was meant for me. I used a couple more years of exploration, trying different training styles before I made the decision to quit the corporate world and start my own personal training business.
At the time, I made this decision I had just received my Level 1 CrossFit certification and had discovered an amazing gym in San Marcos to work out of, Self Made Training Facility. I have currently been training my clients out of this training facility for over a year. The fact that I get to impact and change people’s lives the way my trainer changed my life is truly a blessing and humbling experience. I love to challenge my clients every day, showing them what their bodies are capable, and helping them lead healthier lives. I also love challenging myself. Just because I’m a trainer doesn’t mean that my education and challenges stop. Not only do I have experience with CrossFit, but I have been a competitive power-lifter for the past year and have made the decision to take on my first bodybuilding competition this year.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not, I never expect anything to be easy or come easy. That’s the beauty of the process; overcoming the bumps in the road and learning from them. I also told myself and my clients that if it were easy then everyone would be doing it. There were times that I wanted to give up on training and my nutrition when I wasn’t able to hang out with family and friends and be able to eat whatever I want. There were times when I wanted to give up on my business because I was working my ass off and barely making it. During those times I had to remind myself that the sacrifices I was making in my personal life for my fitness goals and business goals were worth the reward. To have self-confidence and a body I’m happy with is worth it. Being able to make my own schedule and have control of my life is worth it.
To any woman looking to start their fitness journey, DO IT! Do not be afraid to be a strong, healthy, independent woman.
To any woman looking to start their own business, DO IT!
One thing I’ve learned in life is that you can’t be afraid to take risks.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with BAST Fitness and Self Made Training Facility in San Marcos – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I’m currently running a personal training business out of Self Made Training Facility San Marcos. I offer in person and online training. My clients range from those looking for weight loss, strength training, HIIT, kids fitness, or power-lifting. Every genre that I specialize in, I have experienced myself on a personal level. I make it a habit and a goal to try new things and continue my education in fitness and entrepreneurship.
Who have you been inspired by?
I’ve always had great women to look up to in my life; my mom, sister, and grandmother, however, when it comes to my personal fitness journey and my business the woman that I have been most inspired by is myself. Sure there are amazing athletes and businesswomen out there, but I have noticed such a huge growth in myself that I can’t help but be my own inspiration. I also seek the advice and knowledge of those closest to me to continue to grow and challenge myself. Friends, family, significant other, fellow trainers, etc. My philosophy is that I have the ability to learn from everyone that comes across my path.
