Life and Work with Dana Murray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Murray.

Dana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been a lover of all things beauty since I was a kid. I used to whip up my own beauty potions and lotions complete with my own brand labels. Naturally, when I was old enough I went to esthetician school and have been practicing since 2004. My career has taken me from working at a luxury resort spas on the Las Vegas strip, spa management, beauty writing for publications, education and product development for beauty brands.

With all of this experience and knowledge, I felt I had to share it with the world in addition to the fact that I loved writing. That is how my blog Babe + Beauty was born. I wanted to provide concise professional information and help people with their skin health.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started when I was 21 years old and looked about 14. So, it was really hard for a woman that was my mother’s age to trust that I knew what I was talking about! This ended up being a blessing in disguise because I studied even harder and overcompensated with my knowledge I was able to share. I feel that has helped me get where I am today.

In regards to growing my blog and Instagram, I think the biggest piece of advice I can provide is to not getting stuck on the followers or likes. Don’t try to be an “influencer” but be a creator of good quality useful content. That will always win.

Please tell us about Babe + Beauty.
I take more of a holistic approach to beauty and focus on clean, cruelty-free and products and living. I also take an educational scientific approach to skin care which is what sets me apart. When you visit my blog or Instagram, my goal is for you to learn a thing or six!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
For sure! I am the oldest child of three so I very much have always had a bossy go-getter personality. My dad is a graphic designer, so I grew up in a very creative household. Makeup came easily to me because it was very much just painting faces with a different medium.
