Life and Work with Dianne Todman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianne Todman.

Dianne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story begins in Chicago, Illinois where I was born and raised as a little girl. Growing up, I loved to dance, listen to music, and have talent shows with my sister for our friends and neighbors. I was very active, I loved walking and running, playing softball and riding my bike. As I got to high school, doing my hair and makeup was always so exciting and my sense of style was always artistic and creative and was popular with my friends. I always believe that I would become an actress or somewhat be doing something in the beauty industry. But becoming a hairstylist at that time never crossed my mind. I moved to Los Angeles, got married and had two beautiful children. A few years later, my family and I relocated to New Jersey where I was a full-time mom and as my children became school age, I decided it was time to jumpstart my career in what would be Cosmetology. I was always passionate about doing hair and loved the idea of making people look and feel beautiful. After receiving my license, I found a salon and was mentored by my very good friend Trina Stroman who has been in the business for many years. I later moved on as manager/hairstylist in a salon that I eventually ended up owning in 2006. Wow! My very first salon! In the year of 2014, I decided it was time to come back to the West Coast where San Diego would be my new home. I continued to work very hard by building new clientele and finally opened a salon in Sola Salon Studios in April 2018. As I continue to grow in my career, my goal is to work on various sitcoms and events by becoming a celebrity stylist! I’m just a girl who wants to follow her dreams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! It was a time that I questioned myself if this was something I wanted to continue doing. The business was slow for a period of time and I moved around from salon to salon but you just have to keep going. Sometimes life just gets in the way but if this is truly your passion go after it with everything you got! Reinvent yourself if you have to. Make sure to go to hair shows and classes to educate and stay on top of new styles, colors, and techniques.

I am known for my press and curl/silk press, relaxers, cuts, and styles. My warm hospitality sets me apart the most. I love to share and care for others. My laughter is contagious and I love making everyone feel beautiful and special.

As a brand, I am most proud of providing excellent customer care. I want to make sure that I give each client the best service they can have. By listening and providing my honest expertise is what my clients appreciate the most. Building connections and trust are what I strive for one client at a time.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I truly believe growing up in a family of hairstylists aunts/sister/cousins it was just natural.
