Life and Work with Elda Montoya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elda Montoya.

Elda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started a daily outfit blog in 2010, which consisted on not buying more than one item of clothing whether it be an accessory, item of clothing or shoes, for an entire year and also not repeating the same outfit. After that year, I would make a trip with the money I saved and also donate half of my closet.
Both happened! It was a struggle but it also because interesting and it indeed helped me save for a Europe trip.

I started the Chic on the Go six years ago. I loved the challenge of creating new outfits and pairing items. Co-workers encouraged me to continue posting since it. Interested them as well.

Currently, I am a full-time Realtor for Coldwell Banker West in South Bay and continue my passion for fashion on the daily. In my line of business, first impressions are key, so being presentable in a fashionable manner tie in with both my work and hobby!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth ride, posting consistently and or creating new content gets difficult especially when you have a full-time job, but that’s also how you end up loosing a following.

We, as a woman can multi-task a lot of things in life, having a balance is definitely import and not giving up on your dreams.

If it’s not something that makes you lose sleep then maybe pursue something else. But when you’re passionate about something, you will eat breathe and live it on the daily!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Chic on the Go – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I love posting outfit ideas, that’s essentially how it all developed. I wanted women to understand that being fashionable isn’t about putting a huge dent on your wallet. It’s about shopping smart, having quintessential items that can be worn from day to night and be carried from one season to another.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel in this day in age, the woman before us have made a platform via social media and other outlets to speak out about the struggles that before were possible taboo but now, because of a woman who have traced the path, we can create support groups, voice out and also cause change to happen!
