Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Silva Hockstra.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
During a trip to Costa Rica, I was given the word “brave” by my intuitive painting teacher and learned what it meant to fully embrace my courage. This set in motion a series of life-changing events including leaving my “dream” job, starting my own coaching business and having my first book published!
I believe everyone has the power to create the lives they dream of. It takes courage, openness, drive and sometimes someone to hold them accountable to inspire them along the way. I had experience with training and coaching in my previous positions in the banking and wine industries and enjoyed helping others overcome obstacles and achieve goals. Coaching was an obvious business choice for me.
Writing has always been my passion and I have written for several blogs and tried to publish a book in 2015. After several rejections, I put the manuscript away and decided to just focus on building my business. A month later, a managing editor for a publisher found my Instagram page which led her to my blog. She read some of my posts and emailed me to see if I wanted to write a book.
My story is part dedication to a dream and putting in the hard work to make it come true and part trusting that the universe will meet me halfway to create magic!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I believe that everyone has a story that needs to be shared. My art is sharing my story through writing. Everything that has happened to me is a gift and inspiration to write. Even the bad things have created a beautiful narrative for growth, transformation, and healing. My hope is that my stories are an inspiration to others who may be going through something difficult and hopefully someday share their unique stories as well.
My book, Moonlight Gratitude, was inspired by many things in my life including learning to deal with anxiety and learning how to be mindful each day. I think that it is easy to get wrapped up in our day-to-day lives which can make it difficult to find the time and space to be mindful. This book offers a mindful moment each day to stop, reflect and be present.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
I think it is even more important to share our stories now more than ever. The more we shed light on our truth, the less we feel alone and fear and isolation lose their grip.
The power of our story is amazing and even if we only connect with one other person and help them feel less alone, we have done something great. We never know who is seeing what we share. Especially with how connected we are and continue to be, we have the power to be a light to someone who may be going through a dark time; this alone is motivation for me to keep showing up and producing positive and inspiring content.
