Today we’d like to introduce you to Haylie Collier.
Haylie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been very intrigued by Real Estate. My mom has been in the industry for over 30 years, and I remember when I was a kid during breaks at school, I’d help her at her office- filing things, entering data ect. Once I got into college, I was kind of all over the place with what I wanted to do like every 18 years old. Once I finished school, I still couldn’t find what I was really passionate about, so I got the first adult job I could think of… bartering at 21. I knew that this wouldn’t be where I saw my career going. I always had a servant mindset and being a bartender my costumer service skills really shined, I knew I could do more.
In this awkward phase, I was approached by Tony Santiago another Rep for Ticor, and they were looking for a receptionist. I jumped on the opportunity on a full-time position with benefits.. hard to pass up at that time. Within months I was promoted to a Top preforming Title desk at Ticor with Candy Church. I learned the ins and outs of title through a title legend. I loved what I did and started to find real enjoyment in my career, but I just had a feeling that working at a desk wasn’t for me.
During this time, a gentleman by the name of Ryan Lipsey joined the Ticor family and my world completely changed. I saw his hustle and work ethic and knew that’s what I wanted to be. It only took about 16 times of me running into him and asking him for a job did he FINALLY meet with me. My life hasn’t been the same since. I have found so much enjoyment and pleasure in what we do. When our clients get a win, we win too. It’s the most fulfilling part of what I do.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road getting here. In sales, we struggle with changes every day. Success was never promised as a ‘smooth road’ on the contrary, it’s full of potholes, obstacles and adversities, but I choose to embrace the lessons in the challenges, because how can you reach the highest heights if you haven’t walked through some of the lowest lows? We have to overcome adversity to grow, and like lotus flowers, we grow best in the dark. We’ve all know the quote of “Greatness is just outside your comfort zone.”
I’m still overcoming different challenges every day but the best advice I can give young women in the professional field is always be yourself and don’t take anyone talking down to you from anyone. You know your worth, and if you work hard every day and show up for what you believe in you’ll earn the respect of others. I’ve learned that being authentic and just myself attracts the people that I want to work with. Your vibe attracts your tribe.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I feel like our team is so unique and different in our industry. On our team we strive to bring our clients the best ideas and cutting edge techniques to increase their business. We are in the trenches with our clients, and shoulder their burdens with them. We truly care about our clients and what they are going through, caring is our competitive edge. On our team I assist Ryan in client relations, I help accumulate new clients and nurture our current clients.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Being a female in this industry, it is important how we carry ourselves. If one wants to be treated with respect and professionalism, one needs to demonstrate that is what you demand-by the way you dress, conduct yourself at events, and with social media, these days its important to think about what you are putting out there. I was very lucky to find a mentor who embraces and empowers woman to being leaders in whatever we do. Today women have made a huge impact on being CEOs and leaders in the world and are continuing to do so. At the end of the day though, if you want it to work hard for it, it doesn’t matter what you are.
