Today we’d like to introduce you to Irie Earnest.
Irie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was inspired to get into holistic health simply because I found the practice of it beautiful and amazing. The idea that the body reacts positively to holistic treatments, made so much sense and the science of it sometimes complex. I learned more and more about the body. My first journey was when I was about 17 and I purchased herbs and began to read about the abilities plants had. Then, I decided to go to massage school at 18. That is when the floodgates opened. I wanted to know it all, so I took as many classes as I could read so many books. I had so many notes, I test remedies for myself and others with their consent. It seemed like magic how they would heal or their symptoms would lessen, proving their quality of life. Years later, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Lupus. Which really sent more world upside down.
Being married, a mom and a business owner who also taught massage and holistic courses in a college. I needed holistic treatments now more than ever and I believe strongly that my knowledge and all the work I do helping other people, prepared me to really take of myself. Then, it leads me back to helping others find their own “healing experience.” To help, each person I supported to discover “healing plans” for their bodies. I am so blessed to be a part of this experience. For myself, I learned what worked. It was not overnight. It took time and so much patience, which is incredibly hard to have when dealing with autoimmune issues and daily pain. But, every day I am stronger, happier and ready for the challenge. My mind, body, and spirit seem to just respond so much better to what Mother Earth shares with us all. It is like reclaiming our bodies when we find a healthy pattern. I often share what works for me. Which are different herbs. One being cannabis, along with vularian root, lavender, and ginger. I also eat a plant-based diet for many meals. Vegan eating is my favorite, and actually easier than expected. Another, thing that has been great is applying some of the Ayurvedic healing practices which, include Meditation and Yoga (which the yoga part, I am always working on. Not a flexible as I use to be, but I LOVE IT!) I have gotten this far and I hope to go further in becoming healthier and happier. I want to help more people. My goal is to do more guest speaking, create more workshops and mini retreat for others to attend. I believe everyone should have a choice and access to holistic health. I don’t knock Western Medicine, because I believe there is a place for it. However, I also believe that when a natural, organic and plant-based treatment can be an option or an Eastern or New Age Therapy that aligns with the needs of the body is available, it should be explored as well. My message is to continue to spread the wonder of Holistic Medicine and the many treatments.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I have said so many times to friends and clients I support. It is not an easy journey to give yourself to holistic health. The hard part is that health, is very personal and that the mind, body, and spirit being balanced is key to healing. To be consent in the practices of taking herbs daily, getting rest, making better food choices and doing daily activities such a walking, yoga and meditation don’t change you overnight. It is timely but worth each moment. I had to learn to be gentle with myself. Not be hard on myself when I had a rough day. Give me self-permission to have an off day, but be ready to push myself a little more when I felt the energy. My advice for women especially young is to take hold of your “healing experience”. Ask questions, find someone who trusts to support you in your path to healing. As for those who are going into the business of honest health, stay current in the new holistic information and learn about the ancient studies as well. Another word of advice would be connected with other holistically minded people. I enjoy meeting others who have businesses focused around healing, sometimes you can trade services, promote one another and most importantly encourage each other. This builds a great holistic community and women healers just rock!
Please tell us about Earnestly Irie.
I consider myself a bit of a holistic guru. I have been teaching holistic health for over 15 years in colleges and doing my own workshops to educate the public and inspire other holistic professionals. I enjoying teaching and sharing information in my workshops. Some of my workshops are to train massage therapists who need to strengthen their massage skills, connections or need help understanding Eastern and Ayurvedic Healing. I do regular workshops on Chakras and guide group mediations. One of my favorite workshops, to do is Heart Manifestations, which teach people who to tap into their “best self”. I also do Vegan Pop Ups with my husband, who is an amazing chef. We are not vegan, however, we enjoy plant-based food and want to show others there is an alternative and it can be fun turning your favorite dishes like tacos, into a Vegan Taco Tuesday instead.
I am most proud of being in the business of helping people for 15 years. I love what I do and it feels good to love something this much and share it. I also enjoy sharing on social media Instagram has become my favorite. I meet so many people. It is fun seeing the interest grow and to know how far my words, images, and videos can go. One thing I love doing is posting my reviews on cannabis for pain anxiety and stress, I call those post-Irie’s Reviews and I enjoy posting pics of meals I like to make. I am not a chef, but I like making plant-based dishes to show how easy and fun it can be as well as taste amazing. I also teach people how to infuse the cannabis in their food and make topical and other save ways to use it in healing practices. I show people how to make it apart of their daily life, removing the negative stigma. I have been a 420 advocate for over 15 years. I look at my Instagram and Facebook pages like a holistic lifestyle and blog journey. There a little of everything, music art, humor but always a lot of holistic stuff. What sets me apart, is my approach.
As healers, we are different and we all connect on a different level with others. What sets me apart is that very aspect that all healers are unique the power we all have and knowledge we share is all special. I share my knowledge with a lot of compassion. I think that is the most important layer of my practice and teaching. The clients and friends I support ways to share that with me. It really warms my heart to keep going. I hope to be an inspiration to my family, especially my daughter and young women who aspire to be healers, activists and business owners.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
There are so many books I read and I read some many times. One of my favorite ones, Eastern Body Western Mind by Anodea Judith. I love how the author challenges the Western World to use Eastern Mentality, creating peace and prosperity, in the modern day. I also love The Book Of Secrets, by The Osho, although his life is a mystery and very controversial, the teaching is amazing and have brought me much peace and reflection on which has helped me really get thru some of life’s challenges. The big is gigantic. Having the most essential teaching you can read it again and again, always gaining more. It came with a great DVD that I have saved to my Mac, so I often watch in between researching online or working. There are so many blogs, books and podcasts I connect. So, I can go on and on, my favorite podcast is Oprah’s Soulful Sunday. I love all the interesting guests, she has that all take about how to live a better life, it takes a spiritual and holistic approach, in a loving and easy to digest way from some many wonderful people.
