Life and Work with Dr. Janice Doan

Dr. Janice Doan is a cosmetic dentist and co-founder with her sister, Dr. Justene Doan, of A+ Family Dentistry . The Doan sisters understand dental care both personally and professionally. They both have beautiful, healthy white smiles today — but it wasn’t always that way.

The Doan sisters were born in Vietnam. After the war, their prospects were bleak. The girls tried to escape but were captured and imprisoned in a concentration camp. They didn’t have enough to eat — or even a toothbrush. Their teeth were full of cavities. They reveal the miraculous story of their harrowing escape from Vietnam to America in their new book titled ‘Keys to a Healthy Smile After 40: 7 Secrets to Feeling 7 Years Younger,’ which is is now available on Amazon.

After receiving dental care in the US and experiencing first-hand the transformation in their health, confidence, and smiles, the Doan sisters decided to become dentists.

Drs. Justene and Janice Doan are passionate about spreading the message that it’s not too late to get a healthy, beautiful smile. Most people have no clue how to care for their teeth in their forties, fifties, and beyond, and they’re jeopardizing their smile and their health without knowing it. It’s not their fault. Not all dentists educate their patients with the same expertise, clarity, and patience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. However, I am very thankful for my struggle because, without it, I wouldn’t have discovered my strength.

My advice for other women who are just starting our their journey is to have a clear vision of what you want, believe in yourself that you can do anything, and take massive action to accomplish your goals. It will take a lot of hard work but the rewards will be worth it. If you don’t have clarity, get a mentor or coach and learn from that person. Work hard and don’t give up. 😊

I am a cosmetic dentist/smile stylist and I help my patients to have confidence with healthy beautiful smiles.

My book titled “Keys to a Healthy Smile After 40” shatters the myth that plastic surgery is the best way to rejuvenate your face. The truth is –the best way to rejuvenate your face is to have a healthy smile. Most people have no clue that they can prevent disease and reverse aging through proper dental care. It’s not their fault –no one has taken the time to explain the truth. Until now.

A+ Family Dentistry is jointly run by the duo sisters, Justene Doan, DDS, and Janice Doan, DDS, who was awarded “Top 40 Under 40” in 2015, and have been featured in the media.

I treat my patients as if they were my own family members. Using excellent communication skills, I explain dental procedures in a simple, clear way. I place a high value on giving back to the community and provides pro bono dentistry through numerous volunteer programs, including Care Harbor LA, TeamSmile, and more.

I am also an Executive Board Member of the Asian Culture and Media Alliance (ACMA), which is a non-profit organization. ACMA is the only organization that brought together everyone from the Asian and Pacific Islanders community and recognizing them for their achievements and contributions to creating awareness of our community and culture through Television media, film and events.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love reading business books and listening to podcasts. I go to business conferences several times a year to be better. “Always Keep your learning ahead of your earning.”
