Life and Work with Jasmine Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Singh.

Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with vegan speakeasy dinners at my house. My business partner, Rebecca and I just wanted to make good vegan food for our friends. The dinners started small with only a couple of close friends and turned into a big event every Wednesday night. Every dinner, we always included a vegan sauce we created because sauce just makes everything better! Friends started requesting jars of our vegan Nacho Cheeze sauce. We started making the sauce in small batches and selling them in mason jars. Started off really simple small batches and then I started getting texts and calls from people I didn’t even know asking for the Nacho Cheeze sauce they had tried at a party. I was getting calls at all times of the night. That is when the back alley deals started. I would meet people in the back alley of Just Peachy Market in Leucadia. We started an Instagram @nomadveganeats, so I could mange orders better and not have to get texts all day. People on Instagram started calling the sauce Liquid Gold. What started as a small scale production has now turned into a blooming sauce business. We just signed the lease for our first commissary kitchen. REAL EXCITED ABOUT THIS MOVE !! This is a big deal for us because at this point we have a really high demand but don’t have enough space in our current kitchen to get the sauce to more people. We are in 4 local stores Just Peachy Market, OH! Juice Cafe, Mission Square Market, and Loving Hut. Rebecca and I both work full-time jobs so we sauce through the night. We get a lot of requests from different states so we are working on getting an online store together. The bigger kitchen will allow us to make the sauce at a larger scale, so we can supply the people with sauce. I am big on manifesting what you want and I have big plans for Nomad Eats. We plan on selling in Petco Park someday. Imagine watching the game and enjoying a boat of vegan nachos. I know, big name drop there but I truly believe that we have a product that people love and that we enjoy creating so we can accomplish anything with hard work.

Has it been a smooth road?
We never expected 1 AM sauce making to become apart of our weekly schedule, that’s for sure. Also, hunting down all the organic local produce (potatoes especially!) has become a scavenger hunt. One of the biggest shocks was the ridiculous amount of health permits you need. Advice would be to make sure you have all the correct paperwork, pay taxes on time, and believe in yourself as much as you believe in your product. Starting this business has been a true test of our patience, commitment, friendship, and passion. I was lucky to be blessed with such an amazing human-like Rebecca, and beyond grateful for our partnership. At the end of the day, we will stand up to any obstacle to make our vegan sauce dreams a reality. Any struggles along the way are just helping us grow into a strong business and preparing us for our future.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nomad Eats – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Nomad Eats is an entirely vegan (plant inspired), organic, gluten free, oil free, and preservative free company. Meaning, a lot of vegan brands market themselves as “healthy” just because they say vegan. The reality is a lot of it is junk food that has a vegan label on it. We use whole food ingredients. Our sauces we have been selling so far are a Nacho Cheeze, Cheezy OG (no spice), and Caesar dressing. The first sauce we started selling was our Nacho Cheeze, and it continues to be our most popular. The Nacho Cheeze consists primarily of veggies, coconut, cashews, and spices. Thats it! The best part is vegans and non-vegan love our sauce. We trick our Omni friends into thinking it’s real cheese sauce. We pride ourselves on making these vegan sauces that are healthy and fuel the body. We also package in glass making us more eco-friendly. Though it does cost a little more than resorting to plastic, we wanted to create products that are good for us and the planet we live on.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I would always watch my grandma cook healthy vegetarian Indian food. Her food is different than any Indian food you have had in a restaurant. She uses whole foods and makes everything from scratch. Her food is never greasy or heavy as most people think of Indian food. It’s fresh food made with lots of love. When I was younger, I loved watching her cook. She told me cooking for the family brought her great joy. Just seeing us enjoying her food made her smile. I think that is why cooking for people and seeing happy faces around the table brings me so much joy. My passion for cooking is what gives me the courage to keep going every day with Nomad Eats because at the end of the day, I feel sharing our sauce with people is creating happy faces around their table at home.
