Life and Work with Jolene Goring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jolene Goring.

Jolene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is very eclectic!! I’m a Geophysicist from Canada turned International Nutrition & Health Expert … with many cool twists and turns in this journey!

Growing up on a farm outside a tiny town of 2000 people, I had humble beginnings that taught me the value of hard work (like feeding my horses at 5 am before school when it was -30F outside!). As much as I enjoyed this down to earth upbringing, I couldn’t wait to get to university and forge my own path in the big city.

I started out completely enthralled with the glitz and glamor of the oil and gas industry… and what better profession to choose than Geophysics! I was the youngest geophysicist to graduate from the University of Calgary at the age of 21. By the age of 24, I felt like I had ‘made it’! I owned my own downtown luxury condo, I had a fancy sports car, and I was dressed in brand name clothes head to toe. This was what I had envisioned my life to be… so why did it feel so empty?

Always on a journey of self-improvement, I took 6 months off to travel around the world and ‘find myself’. As I traveled around various countries, I felt like I was on a continual quest for happiness. I felt like I would find it in the next city, the next country, the next plane ride. The harder I searched, the emptier I felt.

I ended up moving to Egypt to take a job in Business Development for the oil and gas industry. I actually was in Cairo during the 2011 Revolution! I had to stay hidden in an apartment for two terrifying days until I was able to safely leave the country. Those days and nights were the longest of my life, and I didn’t know if I was going to live or die. I did a lot of reflection during that time, and made a promise to myself: If I made it out safely, I would find my true passion in life – and live it every day.

I finally escaped Egypt with only the clothes on my back and a small bag. My life had been completely turned upside down. I was essentially homeless, staying with friends and family for a number of months as I decided my next move. I spent those months figuring out what my passion in life truly was. I came to the conclusion that I LOVE health, wellness, fitness, food, and also inspiring others to live their best life. But the question was, how to make a living by keeping my promise to myself – to live my passion.

I decided to move to America to start my own wellness company. Who does this?!? Move to a new city (actually a new country!) where I knew no one, plus starting a new company in an industry I’d never worked in?!? But ignorance is bliss because I had NO idea how insane this idea actually was!

My farm girl roots of hard work and perseverance paid off. Within one year, I had landed ongoing media spots on both local and national TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines! Since that time, my career has truly taken off in every sense! I’ve had the opportunity to work with amazing health and wellness brands, continue to travel the world, and live my passion every single day.

All of this has cumulated into my own personal brand, where I stand for Fitness, Food, and Fun. I advocate a healthy lifestyle where there’s always room for chocolate and champagne! I love helping others live their best life ever, with a focus on healthy indulgent living! I do this through filming TV segments, creating content for cool brands, and sharing exciting new experiences with my tribe!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It most definitely has NOT been a smooth road, with numerous struggles along the way! But every challenge that I overcame made me stronger and was a necessary learning experience to pave the way to even greater success.

Having a positive mindset is crucial for success in life. I’ve always been very lucky to be surrounded by supportive family and friends. Despite having a strong support system, I learned that I had to stop seeking external validation, and believe in myself first and foremost. I had to learn to trust my own judgment and know that I would make the decision that was right for me at the time.

I also had to stop letting other’s judgments influence my life decisions. I left the oil and gas industry when it was booming – everyone thought I was crazy for walking away from all of that money! Was it a struggle to re-start my new life? Yes! But it was 110% worth it, since every single day I LOVE what I do since I’m living my passion!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’ve developed my own brand (Jolene Goring), where my goal is to inspire others to live a healthy and fun life! I stand for Fitness, Food, and Fun. I advocate a healthy lifestyle where there’s always room for indulgence! My life goal is to help transform the lives of 1 million people by 2025, and I’m well on my way to achieving this goal!!

Currently, I’m branching out to help other cool brands get their names out there. I work with many types of companies from organic skincare and makeup, to supplements, to food and drink, even hotels and resorts! It’s so fun because one day I’ll be doing an Instagram campaign for an organic coffee company, the next day I’ll be shooting a national TV segment on the health benefits of wine, and the next day I’ll be flying to a new city to help promote a hotel or spa. I love the variety in my life, which I’ve purposely set out to create!

Who have you been inspired by?
I’ve been extremely lucky to be surrounded by strong supportive females my entire life! My mom always told me that I could do or be anything that I wanted, and she believed in me every single time while I was embarking on the next crazy adventure.

I also have a great tribe of girlfriends who are a positive, empowering energy in my life. We all love and support each other; we want the best for each other. There is zero jealousy and just pure support and love, which is so important to have people like this in our lives. It’s so powerful when women help each other live our very best lives!
