Life and Work with Justine Curran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justine Curran.

Justine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became a hairdresser after a year in college. Having gotten pregnant with my now 9-year-old… I needed a career. I attended an Aveda school, worked a year as an assistant and finally made the owner of my dream salon hire me after 2 other failed attempts. I followed the owners from their Wisconsin location to their location in LA. Was so much fun. Learned a lot, made great friends, and was constantly star struck. I then welcomed my now 3-year-old. Not wanting to leave SoCal, I moved to SD for a slightly slower pace. And now, this is what I call home. I currently am renting a chair at a salon I adore called Salvage. It’s a block from my home and I feel so lucky to be working for such wonderful people.

Has it been a smooth road?
Ohh, definitely not. I’m a single mother of two daughters. Trying to balance both motherhood and work is very challenging. Finances, fear of not being good enough, stress, wanting more… all of it. I guess the best advice is… you’re never going to feel ready or good enough. Everyone feels that way, even the people you look up to. So, just take that risk/opportunity and surprise yourself! And if you look at everything like an adventure, more opportunities come your way. Magic things. Also, get clear with yourself on what it is you actually want out of life, and then manifest like it’s your job!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in effortless hair, easy to maintain color, lived in looks, fringe, and I have a love for retro style. I’m most proud of the connections I’ve made with my clients. They really are the best ones… (says every stylist about their clients) and they keep me excited about what I do.

Who have you been inspired by?
Women… like all of them. Women are so dang magical. And so strong. And can deal with a lot, manage a lot, multi-task like crazy, form entire humans in their bodies… I’ve had the privilege of hearing some incredible stories from the women that come see me and it’s always inspiring.
