Life and Work with Kacy Preble

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacy Preble.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kacy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Santa Barbara county, but marriage to a Marine brought me to the San Diego area. My family includes my husband and our four children. We live on Camp Pendleton, where my children attend school and I got connected into the North Terrace PTO being the secretary for the board. My children all participated in Youth Sports on base and a relationship with the staff developed. An opening came available and after applying I became a Recreation Attendant and then Coordinator there. Our family attends church at Daybreak Community Church. I started out serving in the nursery and then joined the El Salvador Mission trip team. After returning from that medical missions trip, I joined the board for the mission teams for the church. Most recently, I became one of three leaders for the Military Wives group at the church where we hold monthly dinners to spend time in fellowship with fellow military wives of the church and the community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The military life is not an easy life, one of the hardest things being surrounded most of the time by so many going through the same type of daily struggles you are going through, but not really talking about it. Since we all go through similar obstacles we don’t talk about it very much and we often forget that our life is not as normal as we think it is. The chaotic level we live at becomes so normal to us that we forget the constant stress we are under and what that can do to us. I’ve learned to become involved with my community to help keep my schedule busy outside of my home. Between moving out of the country twice and having four children I have also kept my mind busy through attending school online to finish up a bachelor’s degree.

Please tell us about your business.
I think what sets me apart from others is my willingness to get involved in my community. I spend my free time helping plan events at my kid’s school. The PTO puts on several school dances for the children, organizes and runs fundraisers to help fund the children’s field trips, and in October we host a large Fall Festival event that is open to the community not just the school. Through Daybreak church I have gone on TJ hygiene day trip and medical mission trips to El Salvador. Both trips to El Salvador we hosted three days of medical clinics for the communities and an orphanage. During the Military Wives night, we host a dinner and small group sessions. Dinner and childcare are free for those who come and we encourage military wives to bring other military wives in hopes to build strong community relationships with one another and Daybreak. My faith is most important to myself and my family and it has been the constant in our life. Currently, for employment, I work at MCCS Camp Pendleton Youth Sports. I first started as a volunteer cheer coach with them for four seasons. A part time position became available last year to help support the sport coordinators and manager, I applied and was hired. I spent the past year learning all the requirements to get a sport season up and running. I have recently been promoted to a coordinator where I get a specific sport for that season and make sure all the teams and coaches are set before the start of the season. As the season runs on, I attend all the games and help keep the season running smoothly. Even with all this, I am most proud of my marriage and our children. I have been married for 13 years and we have lived in Japan twice, North Carolina, and California. My children are well adapted and kindhearted. They also enjoy serving at the church and helping with whatever is needed at whatever event we are at. They jump at the chance to make friends and enjoy to spend time outdoors.

Who have you been inspired by?
I’ve found inspiration from many women that I have met throughout my life. My mother and both of my grandmothers were great role models to me for different reasons. My mother worked full time after my father passed away and set a good work ethic for me. She showed me how to be a good employee and work hard for your job. Both my grandmothers spent their time caring for children. One grandmother was a teacher and taught me the importance of education and the other was a childcare provider who taught me the importance of giving your attention to children while they grow. I have been blessed to have women in my life who have all had great strengths in different areas giving me a great opportunity to have strengths in a well-rounded way.
