Life and Work with Kenese Sonny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenese Sonny.

Kenese, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In December 2018, I was introduced to the medicinal part of cannabis. I feel like the universe was leading me down the part of cannabis before learning of all the amazing benefits of cannabis. My understanding of cannabis was that it was a gateway drug and people use it to get high. My current use of cannabis at that time was smoking a joint every couple of years. Here is the story of how my mindset about cannabis changed.

I was working in the mortgage industry and a coworker grandson was diagnosed with brain cancer. She told me that they were giving him cannabis drops underneath his tongue. I didn’t know anything about cannabis at that time, so I took note of what she said. After a few months, her grandson cancer was cleared and back in remission. My coworker and her family believe that the use of cannabis is what helped her grandson.

Slowly after my coworker was diagnosed with breast cancer, she also started using cannabis but didn’t like feeling high, smoking it, or the taste of the drops. This is when my passion for helping people kicked it. My mind started going, “how can she get what she needs in a way that is tasty and no one else knowing she’s using cannabis?”

At this time, I started to date someone in San Diego that exposed me to the cannabis community and the different ways people use cannabis in California for healthy purposes. I started to use cannabis more often because I now had access to it and learned that it can help heal my body and bring it back to homeostasis.

After six months of dating and flying back and forth from New Jersey to San Diego the relationship ended abruptly. The loss of the relationship hurt me but I was more hurt because I felt the universe lead me into the relationship. So my pain was no longer due to a broken relationship. It was now due to trusting the universe and my spiritually. I went into what is called “The Dark Night of The Soul”, which is a spiritual depression.

I started smoking cannabis on a daily basis because I knew it helped with depression. I started to notice that when I smoke, I was more focused and was able to apply the tools to rebuild myself and heal myself. I also discovered that baking and finding a way to infused cannabis in my baking helped me feel so much better. My baking became my therapy. I found myself getting lost in creating desserts and sharing it with those I love made me feel alive.

I made the decision that I was going to help people get the health benefits through quality food made with love and positive energy, my edibles company was born. I started looking for the best quality cannabis and started creating products using specific strains of cannabis, fast-forwarding six months later. My good friend invited me to her pilot recording for her talk show and asked me to make my time-release cupcakes. It was my first time ever sharing my vision of edibles healing energy. The response was mind-blowing. Everyone had a positive review of my product and people wanted more.

I was offered to have my cupcakes in a CBD store Alive Wellness in Ocean Beach, CA. That was the open door of opportunity I was looking for. I shared with my friend the opportunity and asked if I can stay at her place for a few months to build my brand and business. She said yes and I relocated my kids to Florida to stay with their father and I drive cross country with two friends to San Diego to follow my dreams of helping people heal and have an amazing experience using cannabis in edible form. I use organic and premium ingredients, specific strains and positive energy in every product I create. If my energy level isn’t up, I don’t bake. I want to infuse the highest level of energy in my creation.

Today I am currently bi-coastal living in Chula Vista and New Jersey building my company. This is a short story of my journey.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all. My family didn’t see or understand my vision, my business partnership ended like another mentality abusive relationship. My relationship with my mother ended. I’m still healing from the trauma of what following your dreams really mean. It means that you will really see who’s for you and who’s out to see you fail. My advice to other women is to stay focus on your vision and don’t give up. The storm will come, but don’t stand still in the rain keep moving forward through it. Also, talk less and do more.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a certified health and Wellness coach and transformational coach. I help others through their challenges in life by sharing my story and steps I used to heal and become a better version of myself. I believe that in order for users to evolve to the next level as humans, we need to take better care of ourselves. So I focus on creating a unique experience by understanding the dosages of cannabis and what strains help with certain health issues. Also, share how to use cannabis to help with anxiety, depression and mental illness.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
My favorite app is Leafly. It gave me all the information about the different strains and their effects. This information is very important to me because the edible products I create are strain-specific and help my client bases on their medicinal needs.
