Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Eisner.
Kimberly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been of a lover of everything beauty! I enjoyed expressing myself through makeup and changing my looks quite often growing up. I went to college and received my degree in business management and currently, I am building my business and setting myself up for the future. What started as a fun hobby developed into something that I am very passionate about. Growing up, I always do makeup for friends and family and that turned into great word of mouth to bring on more clients. I started off just doing makeup then I wanted to further my services so I went to training for lash extensions and spray tans. It makes me happy to see people’s reactions to my work and be so blown away. That is something I take pride in. I do a lot of makeup/tans for brides and wedding parties as well as makeup for photoshoots. I’m super excited to say that I will be going back to school in the fall to get my Esthetician license and can’t wait for the added services I’ll be able to provide.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. It is always easy to get discouraged and think you aren’t doing the best you can or that you should be busier. The main thing I learned is to always be consistent with putting myself out there. Social media has done wonders and is easy free advertisement. When I first started doing lash extensions, I was offering giveaways once a month and that really helped me get noticed and have more people ask about my work. It will take a little sacrifice but I believe the amount of work you put in will definitely be noticed. The best advice I can give is to not give up and strive for what you want. One thing I really commend about myself is I have a phenomenal drive. Anything I have ever set my mind to, I have done and not a lot of people can say that.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in making people feel beautiful. I do makeup for all special occasions or no occasion at all. Lash extensions specializing in luxurious volume lashes. Custom spray tans for when you are feeling a little pale this winter. What I am most proud of as an artist and what sets me apart I believe is that I legitimately love what I do and seeing someone’s reactions to my work is priceless. I love teaching and spreading my knowledge to anyone interested in learning what is best for their skin or what eye looks complement their eye shape. My prices are very reasonable and I offer mobile services to get glammed up out of the comfort of your own home.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Social media has helped me tremendously grow my business. It is super easy to post your work but the main thing to do is be consistent. I have found myself many times getting my lashes done or a facial and just asking a bunch of questions to pick their brain of how they got started or what they recommend. At the end of the day, it is what is going to work best for you and that is something you will learn over trial and error but definitely talking to other people in the same area of business is a great start.
