Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Bethea.
Kristina, please share your story with us.
Bésik was (and still is) originally created to build simple custom websites for people’s personal or business needs.
I edged on a really good friend of mine that we should start a company in doing that. She agreed, so I thought of a name.
My name is Kristina Bethea and her name is Krystyna Singleton. I combined the first two letters of my last name (be), the first two of her last name (si), and took the first letter in our names.
That’s when I thought: besik (basic). Though in order to sound the ‘e’ for an ‘a’, you need an accent. So ‘bé.’
She took a different route yet, I wanted to keep the name and go solo, so I did.
The logo ‘be’ expresses that, and is the only thing that can be modified in bésik.
The motto is to keep it simple and keep it bésik. We can achieve more by doing less. Start with the basics to achieve greatness in anything you do.
I wanted to express my creative side and make a clothing line out of it and bring it to life where people can become a part of and feel connected to the brand.
Where people can feel they can be themselves and be great at whatever they do.
The brand is customizable and the logo/brand placement can be changed to fit one’s style.
The original colors are red, blue, and yellow because those are the basic colors that makeup almost every color we see today, including black and white.
After my layoff is when I brought it to fruition.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The brand has indeed been a smooth road since my first prototype 6 months ago.
Everything is so new still and it took off so quickly. Just a week after I launched my website I was hosting at a nightclub.
The struggles are due to my layoff so it’s though to launch more products, and just having to wear all the hats hoping you’re doing it right.
The best advice I have for young women who are starting is to just start. That’s it. Every day put some time in to help it and watch it grow.

I am an entrepreneur who loves the tech world. I specialize in being myself, self-taught, and being super creative with many talents, it’s tough to choose one.
I am known for my personality, my professionalism, by the ability to get the job done no matter how big.
As a brand, I am most proud that I started. I am also proud that I am able to run it solo and so many people are wearing it and loving it too; it’s a great feeling.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Yes, I do feel that opportunities are out there that we have to fight and strive for it’s only a matter of that opportunity unfolding.
Because we are women, there’s already a barrier for careers but we have to push, or create our own jobs and empower others.
