Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Dawood.
Kristina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for makeup started as early as I can remember. I have a picture, I must have been about 5, wearing my moms heels, jewelry and bright red lipstick! Fast forward to high school, this is when my love for makeup grew and I started doing friends and family members makeup. After I graduated, I didn’t have any plans nor did I know what I wanted to do with my life, all I knew is I loved makeup and I wanted to pursue it. I decided to take the Makeup Design program at Bellus academy and from there became a certified makeup artist. I then got a job working at Sephora which is where I had the opportunity to learn about so many cosmetic brands. It was a great start to working in the industry but I knew I wanted more, so I then went on to work at my dream job, MAC cosmetics! I’ve been with the company for 4 years now and I’ve learned so much, not only improving my artistry but also taking the time to listen to people and give them exactly what they want. Turning to makeup was a way for me to feel more confident and beautiful. And in this industry I do just that, I give people the confidence to look and feel their best and that is so rewarding! Within the last 3 years, I started freelancing more and more and this year has been my busiest yet! I’ve been so blessed to meet so many amazing clients, friends, and artists in this industry and it’s only the beginning!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it’s been a great journey! I remember the first wedding I did and I thought I was going to die of nervousness! I’ve come a long way since then and now think of weddings as glamming up my girlfriends! My advice to anyone just starting out is an education! People can hire anyone to do their makeup but if you know about products and know exactly what to use on people that will set you apart!
Please tell us about Makeup by Kristina.
Working for MAC and freelancing on the side definitely keeps me busy. I specialize in weddings and everyday events people are attending. I’m definitely known for doing full glam, whether it be colorful or smokey, I’ll do it as dramatic as you want.
I’m an all or nothing kind of girl, but don’t get me wrong, I love a soft natural glam too. So, I guess I do the best of both worlds! I’m proud to see how much I’ve grown within the last couple of years and to see where I go from here!
Who have you been inspired by?
All my inspiration comes from the people I work with on the daily. We always play with makeup, whether it be on ourselves or clients, and I’m always learning new techniques!
