Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Heikkila.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After a 25 year career as an Insurance Agency owner in Northern Idaho, I sold my business to move back to Southern California. Feeling the need to something that I was more passionate about, I began educating myself in health and fitness and started a fitness and wellness studio. A few years into this I started dealing with some of my own health issues related to hormones and this provoked a passion for discovering why women go through certain changes in their 40’s and how to prevent them. I started an Instagram page to record my journey to turning 50 and shared with the community the things that were working for me. Soon my page started growing quickly in followers and in 2 years I had over 30k followers. I was constantly contacted by other women looking for help with their own weight and hormonal issues and this led me to developing the Ageless Women Society and an 8 Week Program for Weight Loss and Hormonal Balance designed for women over 40. Since the creation of this program I have worked with hundreds of women around the world helping them take back control of their health and body.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been an entrepreneur for almost 30 years and the road is never easy. You struggle between working too much because you are so busy with clients to trying to get more clients because you aren’t busy enough. The key for me has been to never give up. If something isn’t working, change it. Always figure out what your client is looking for and give it to them with the best possible service you can. Don’t be afraid to fail or to get out of your comfort zone. Starting an Instagram page at 49 years old and posting fitness, bikini, etc. photos of myself was WAY out of my comfort zone, but I did it to prove a point that women don’t have to just give up on themselves as they age!
Please tell us about Ageless Women Society.
I specialize in working with women over the age of 40. Women this age have given so much of their life taking care of everyone else that they tend to let their needs go. It’s also a difficult time because women are going through so many physical changes with their bodies due to perimenopause/menopause. I help women take back control of their bodies. I give them the tools to go through this time of life much easier and I help them regain their confidence by helping them get their bodies back. I show them that it is possible to look as good as your twenties and you don’t need to feel guilty taking the time for yourself to do that. I am most proud of all the ladies that have completed my program and have felt so good about themselves that they are posting photos of their progress. I also have helped so many women avoid taking prescription drugs by teaching them a holistic approach to their health.
I think what sets me apart from others is I want to build women up and boost their confidence, not tear them down like so many women do. The biggest satisfaction I get is when I get messages from my clients about how great they are beginning to feel about themselves.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love health podcast by Dr. Cabral or JJ Virgin. I read tons of books on hormones, healing through herbal therapies, whole food diets, etc.
