Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Lomax.
Lexi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been a business person. As an only child, I was always with my parents, both entrepreneurs. I often say I grew up coloring at the end of the board room table. So, when I had the opportunity to start my own business, I was all over it. My first official business was opening my salon, Ooh la la Salon & Boutique in El Cajon in 2007. Over the last 13 years in the salon, I have learned so much from my stylists and customers. Over the years, I developed various systems and business practices to make my life and the life of my stylists, and renters easier. My salon is a booth rental salon, which means that everyone who works there rents time and space from me, but we work with united goals and vision. This can be challenging at times but has been a great business model for me. Over time, more and more people were asking how I was doing it, and how they could implement my systems in their salons, and in their businesses too… from there my coaching and consulting business was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting my coaching business has not been the smoothest. Opening my salon wasn’t simple either, but it was so long ago I almost don’t remember. Definitely starting any new business is difficult, but having a plan, and not giving up when you don’t have success right away is the key. I think it’s so hard to not get instant results. Especially when we live in such an instant gratification world. You just have to keep pushing, and doing the work, and keep your eyes on your own paper. You really can’t compare what other people are doing to what you are doing. It’s so tough, but otherwise, it can really get to you. Now that I have momentum, clients, and sales it’s easy to see that, but it was definitely discouraging in the beginning.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Have a plan. Know it will change, but keep an open mind, and always look for solutions. If you are solution minded and have an attitude of abundance, you will almost certainly succeed. And obviously do the work, the hard stuff, and the fun stuff.
