Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos Gael Guerrero.
Marcos, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started during university in the last years of the degree, I started working for some architects for a few years, when I left I joined a construction company, a period in which I was very grateful I had the opportunity to learn about everything and from different projects in different scales that led me to better understand the context, space, time, inhabiting, textures and materials.. always interested in architecture, social, nature but also material and its integration of design, art and the like, I was interested and I wanted to be able to create projects in a personal studio, which with time and effort began to arrive with clients and jobs on site, small projects were gradually presented during the last months that I was working in the construction company, at which time fortunately with much work, I made the decision to start a small study which I called FRAGMENTO, at that time I had to make the decision “very difficult for certain” To “resign to be able to develop more in the projects of the Fragment office”, I formally began the study and a new stage in my life, growing up in the office with a small team but extraordinary collaborators, since then to date we continue working and contributing what best of us to be able to continue knowing, learning, creating, growing together with projects, clients, workers on site and everything that surrounds us, to arrive, develop and leave a small fragment in this place that we live and that we opportunity every day to feel, be and live.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy road. There are many obstacles, like everything there are high and low situations, but the important thing is to remain and enjoy each project no matter how small or big, it is interesting to work and find a way to stay on track and continue growing creatively, workflows in a way that allows you to continue and not let yourself fall.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think that there is no distinction from the others, we are all the same, the interesting thing is to understand, to be more sensitive I am sure that the work we do, we develop with time and dedication from a perspective which we are interested in knowing, questioning ourselves and in questioning the project, analyze and think about finding solutions to understand the problem. We seek to understand and build with the human being a growth beyond a place or object, integrated into the natural proposal of the space and elements in manifest that provide the materiality and expression of its origin. We believe that in each space, we have the possibility of creating, inhabiting, forming a social dialogue, a story that transcends an evolutionary process with a timeless sense of place in its being, exploring and living.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Of course, it has made us change the way we develop life in general. For the same reason, it made us adapt to the way of looking for new ways and processes of carrying out both physical and theoretical projects in the studio, It changed the way of inhabiting places but it made us realize that we had to deal with the problems that exist worldwide, it made us pay more attention to those simple things that were in our sight but that we did not appreciate, to be able to adapt to the possibilities of all, the architecture becomes a fundamental element in every way and it is important to understand that it is a right and an obligation that all human beings have yet to be born.
