Life and Work with Marlene Avelino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Avelino.

Marlene, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My very first job as a nail artist was back in April of 2014. I started as a booth renter in DT Chula Vista inside a hair salon. I was the only nail artist surrounded by a group of hairstylists. I always had a dream, and that was to own my own nail studio one day. I really always saw it as a dream. It was hard for me to believe that it can actually become a reality one day. That dream never died. Finally, in April 2019, my dream of having my own nail studio became a reality for me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trying to become a business owner definitely hasn’t been easy for me. I’ve had my struggles all along my journey. I came from a family that didn’t have much growing up but one thing I do know is that we always work hard for what we want. Some of the struggles along the way of trying to become a business owner is money. Especially, when doing everything on my own. Having to pay for a business license, insurance, furniture and just getting your basics to start running your business. My advice to all women out there trying to start a new journey is to never give up. To never let anyone tell you “YOU CAN’T DO IT” anything is possible and all dreams do become reality. For some, it might come faster and for some, it might take some time. But don’t get discouraged. We all move different but always keep SUCCESS on your mind.

Please tell us about Avelino Nails.
I’m a nail artist and I specialize in nails.
I’m very proud of my work. I worked hard to get where I am now. My dedication, my quality work, my attention to detail and my customer service is what sets me apart from other nail artists. I always use quality products, I give my clients quality time on each of their appt. I make sure to book enough time for each person to make them feel extra special and not rush through their service. I like to know that my clients come to a place where they know they are appreciated.

Who have you been inspired by?
My friend Vanessa is a huge inspiration for me. She’s a single mother of three and she recently opens a non-profit organization for empowering women.
