Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Beatrice Bates.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Melissa Beatrice Bates and I am 35 years young. I grew up in California with an absolutely amazing mom and one older sister. Throughout my life, I always liked to do my own thing and knew that was the direction that I would take as I got older.
I would definitely say that I’ve had a smorgasbord of jobs throughout my life as I figured out exactly what area that I wanted to be in overtime. Two of my favorite jobs out of many were working for a tech company as well as teaching English in South Korea. I feel as though it’s so powerful to test out different areas because you can accumulate all of those skills to bring into your desired profession.
I have finally found my true passion and my heart is filled daily by being an Online Business Marketing Content Coach, but I began as a Health Coach five years ago. Fun story though, I dropped out of my Business Marketing major in 2003.
In 2003, I entered University as a Business Marketing Major… & quickly after my soul said NOPE! You’re a creative let’s hit up the Art department! I remember being in my 1st marketing class sitting on an extremely non-comfy chair & feeling my head + eyes drift up to the ceiling in pure Boredom. My professor did not speak to any part of my soul and I disconnected from that major pretty quickly… Your girl! Switched over to photography the next day!
But rewind back to 2015… I was literally trying to build and market my own business. It’s crazy as hell how the world works. I honestly wouldn’t have had it any other way because now I get to approach business in a creative Manner! My brain is built differently than an individual that just attended business school. I was able to adapt my University Art experience, Health Coaching experience, Business Mentorship experience, and my current business coaching experience to create the business that I run now, which I love!
The world molds us & prepares us for the future even though we may not know what’s coming, but it’s pretty damn cool how it allowed me to evolve into who I am today & where I am today! If you would have asked me in 2003 if I would be in business, I would have laughed in your face, but the past 17 years have prepared me for this majorly aligned shift in my life that I would never change!!
When I started as a health coach in 2015, I began because throughout my life, I struggled with binge eating, bulimia, and chronic dieting for over 20 years and when I was finally able to heal it… I sure as hell wanted to spread that around the world to other females. It brought me great joy, but last year in 2019, I felt my soul shifting in a new direction. Yes, I still wanted to impact females, but in a new way. It honestly took me over six months to finally make the shift because I was nervous as all hell to leave something that I knew so well behind! With that said, I literally knew that I was completely stepping on my toes and just had to take the leap. In September of 2019, I finally took the leap and it has aligned so hard with my mind, body, and soul. Working with females to build their business daily lights me the hell up in crazy ways.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would definitely advise in seeking a professional to get your business moving and grooving without the crazy headaches of doing it solo. In the beginning of building my business, I was a very stubborn female.
I thought that I could do it all by myself without any help from others. It was surely a pride thing for me. I put so much pride on being the Lone Ranger and smashing things out on my own. As I look back on when things got tough, I stopped showing up for myself and my tasks that I wanted to complete because it simply got either overwhelming or I just couldn’t learn how to balance everything out. That is the last thing you want to do when trying to start a business.
Fast Forward to now, I learned it’s 100% OKAY to ask for help and invest in help. I simply learned that this world is not meant to be walked in alone. It’s worth having a supportive community and it’s worth investing in yourself!
Paying money for coach or mentor might be scary, or even feel like a waste, but Trust me, once I put my tail between my legs and began to look at it in a different way. I knew that I was feeding money in making my goals come true! I added support in my life to stay on track even when $hit the fan! I was literally throwing into the universe how much I valued my growth and success in life!

I am a Business Marketing Content Coach for new female coaches. I help them build their business from scratch to fully launched programs and services. I support them to create an authentic brand to represent their company through intentional content creation. I am most proud of being able to help other coaches move forward in this crazy beautiful entrepreneurial world. What sets me apart is I truly emphasize the power of storytelling to create an authentic brand that feels natural for my clients to show up daily for every week.
It warms my heart daily to see the progress of my clients and it’s so powerful knowing I can support them closely through their journey. By becoming a business coach, my reach has not only spread to impacting my immediate clients but also trickles down to my clients, finally standing up to impact others as well!
It’s pretty damn amazing!
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I think all the ups and downs that I experienced throughout my life like being homeless in high school formed the resilience in me to never give up as well as being raised by a single mom that would work three jobs just to provide for her family. I truly learned to just continue and move through the fire which runs deep in my blood.
