Life and Work with Myra Hollis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myra Hollis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a woman on the mission to empower other women and help them work through their trauma and other challenges of daily life. I am from Inglewood, CA and moved to San Diego for college in 2012. My experiences in San Diego have shaped my adulthood. I have realized the importance of helping my community back home and also the ones I have become apart of in San Diego. I started my non-profit FEM Scholar five years ago. It is a mentorship program for high school girls to go to college. While it has flourished, I still have had the desire to help women my age. About a year ago that is how I birthed Resilient Tea and Life Goes On Beach conversations.

Resilient tea is an event held at the end of the year for women to come together and reflect on their year and create clarity to move smoothly into the new year. The Beach Converations is the 6-month check-in after the tea.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating these different groups has not been easy sailing but the hard work has steadily paid off. I love seeing women have a breakthrough at each and every event.

Some of the struggles have been recruiting, I’ve come to notice closer to the event tons of people sign up; which gives me a sigh of relief.

My advice to other women working to create spaces of healing is to do it with passion and purpose; if people will come is not the worry.

Please tell us about FEM Scholar and Resilient Tea.
I am actually a therapist but enjoy doing group work; explains all of my desires to create group events. I specialize in creating space for vulnerability; that is probably the theme for everything that I host.

When it comes to FEM Scholar, I am proud of the continues growth, when it comes to Resilient Tea I’m proud of the expansion. Resilient Tea began in Los Angeles and is now in San Diego; it will eventually be in many more cities.

I believe what sets me apart is that once I begin a project I don’t drop it; I continuously keep it going no matter if 2 people show up or 20.

Who have you been inspired by?
I can say a few women have inspired me. But the first would have to be my mom; she has taught me that no matter what hits you in life, you can fall and rise at the same time. Secondly would be my best friend Terri who has taught me no matter what to stay optimistic and genuine. My therapist sisters (they know who they are) have taught me and inspired me time and time again to believe in myself, they steadily affirm me and I can’t think them enough. I’m blessed to say that every woman in my life that I have a connection with has inspired me in some at or another and that is why they have remained in my life for so long.
