Life and Work with Natasha Wolf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Wolf, ND.

Natasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey to becoming an ND started when I was an undergrad pre-med student at Queen’s University in Canada. A good friend asked me if I’d ever heard of a Naturopathic Doctor? I said no, but with the brief description she gave me, I was intrigued and headed straight to the career center on campus. Although nobody at the career center had heard of “Naturopathic Medicine”, I was able to find one small brochure for an accredited school in Seattle – Bastyr University.

Coincidentally, over my summer break, my mother had given me a book called “Lectures on homeopathic medicine” by Kent. I was 19 years old, lying on the beach reading this very intense book about the philosophies of a type of medicine that I had never heard of. The philosophies I was reading about and the understanding of the body and health resinated so deeply with all of my being that I had to explore this passion as a career.

What really appealed to me was the rigorous education! I wanted the integration of medical science and natural medicine, with a more thorough understanding of health and disease and what impacts each.

It takes perserverence to establish a career in my field. I balance the roles of doctor and business owner, sometimes well and other times worse. I do prioritize exercise, healthy diet and meditation in times of stress, this is essential to manage stress well. I also make efforts to decrease stress, stay mindful, and appreciate what I have!

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles. I don’t think we should expect a smooth ride. But instead, appreciate smoothness when it comes your way! Appreciate when things seem to synergistically go your way! Decide how much time you are willing to commit to your business or career. Set your hours and then enjoy personal time after that. Don’t mix the two.

Group similar activities together. For me, I have 3 days a week that I see patients and two days that I work in the business. I have had this schedule for 15 years now. It allows me to wear my two hats separately – doctor/ business owner. This simple idea has given me the time to write blog articles, send emails, and just catch up on the day to day.

Prioritize self-care! You have to take care of yourself, nobody else does this for you! I suggest – a massage 1x/ month, consider an Epsom salt bath 1x/week, exercise – 30-60 minutes/day if possible and a healthy diet – of course!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vitalia Natural Medicine – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor practicing family medicine with an emphasis on women’s health, especially thyroid, hormone and auto-immune disease. This May, my business, Vitalia Natural Medicine celebrates 15 years!

I believe in the connection between mind, body, and spirit. I use a personalized approach that focuses on treating the patient, not the disease.

“I believe that dis-ease results from an imbalance of the body’s naturally healthy state. The symptoms are the body’s reaction to the imbalance and provide me with valuable clues to the true cause of illness. By addressing the cause, I work with the patient to restore balance and return the body to its naturally healthy state.”
“Healing can be a transformative experience that leads to a better understanding of the self, breaking through limiting thoughts and belief patterns, creating an improved quality of life through stress management and life balance, and identifying purpose and passion in life.”

I use a combination of knowledge in nutrition, homeopathic and herbal medicines with clinical experience to create customized wellness plans for my patients.

I received my Honors Bachelor degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I then attended Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington, an accredited four-year Naturopathic Medical school.

I am a licensed Naturopathic doctor in California and a member of both the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the California Naturopathic Doctor’s Association.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mom. My mom is a psychotherapist, which has it’s good and bad. But, she is a wonderful, caring and sensitive person who cares greatly about all other beings, including the earth, and she has certainly cared for me. She has taught me so much, I can’t even fathom. She has been my teacher and my guide my whole life. And, of course, I also went my own way at times.

Powerful and famous women have also inspired me – Angelina Jolie (for what she has been through), Oprah (forgoing her own way), and Suze Orman (because I appreciate knowledge about money and finance).
