Life and Work with Nichole Brauer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichole Brauer.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey to Discover Your Niche has been one filled with twists and turns and only started back in September. Before I lived in San Diego, I lived in the city of Chicago and was a full-time Labor and Delivery nurse for 4.5 years. Flash forward to May of 2018 my boyfriend and I decided to move to San Diego for a much-needed change. With that change, came difficulty meeting people and finding my niche in a new city. I struggled with feeling settled and was yearning for something more in my life. One night while working (yes I am still a full-time Labor and Delivery Nurse) the idea hit me… I needed to discover my niche and what better way to do so than on this platform called Instagram. Ever hear of it?? I decided at 4:00 in the morning that this would be my new project, my new hobby, my new niche. Now, here we are, only a few months later and I have had the time of my life discovering my niche and inspiring others to do so.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My road to becoming a blogger has not been an easy one. There have been plenty of times when I have wanted to quit and times when I questioned what I was doing but there has always been a light at the end of the tunnel. I have to remind myself why I started to Discover Your Niche and it was to not only inspire myself but inspire others to live authentically and unapologetically yourself as well. There will always be people along the way that will try to tear you down and pass judgment on what you’re doing – but you always have to remember that you aren’t doing this for anyone else but yourself.

Throughout my journey, I have met some amazing women who are the brightest lights in my life. All these women are about collaboration instead of competition. If it weren’t for these girls, I don’t know if I would be continuing on in my journey. If I have any advice for anyone just starting out on your journey find your girl gang, put yourself out there and I promise you will be surprised. Don’t give up, there are way better things ahead of you than behind you.

Please tell us more about Discover Your Niche.
I guess to the outside world, I would be considered a blogger or influencer but for me, I don’t like to put a title on it. I enjoy posting about fashion, beauty, lifestyle, health, and travel – kind of all over the place huh? I like being able to post about whatever I like and I think that’s the coolest part of this entire process. I am my own brand and I get to make my own content. I want my brand to be able to grow with me and change with me as I make changes in my life.

I truly am most proud of just putting Discover Your Niche on the map and out in the public eye. I am always learning and am not too proud to ask for help when I need it.

I hope my audience will see that I am living my most authentic life and that will set me apart from others. I love showing my creative side but also have that nurturing caring nurse side too.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I have done a lot of research! My best advice for finding a mentor is putting yourself out there. Ask someone to go to coffee, see if you can pick their brain. That has always worked well for me. Most people out there want others to succeed just as much as they are!

Look for events in your area in your niche. You would be so surprised at how many companies hold events! Some of my favorite in the SD area is Cabe Partners and Lemon Life Social (these girls are boss babes)!
