Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Haines.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was a little girl, I was always fascinated with the stars and learning about my zodiac sign. Being a Scorpio, and growing up as an only child, I spent a lot of time alone. The time spent by myself allowed me to have an extreme imagination. Every time, my mom took me to the grocery store, I always asked to buy the latest issue of the Cosmopolitan. I would literally flip all the way to the back and read the horoscopes for that month. I always knew, that as humans, we were connected to a greater power. Something bigger than our imaginations.
Fast forward a few years, I went through my younger adult life always judging and interpreting people’s reactions in situations and chalking it up to their zodiac signs, personality traits, or “mercury retrograde”. I was certain that the reason for their behavior was controlled by a larger energetic force that we didn’t have control over. I didn’t realize it at the time, but these intuitive thoughts were actually spirit’s way of guiding me into my purpose.
In 2016, I found yoga. Or should I say, it found me? I was at a really dark time in my life. I had a lot of internal health issues, anxiety, depression, and had just gone through a pretty bad break up. Yoga was something that saved me. Every time I left the studio, I felt a little bit lighter.
This year, I decided to jump into teacher training at CorePower Yoga here in San Diego, and sure enough, I started teaching yoga! I am now proud to be able to share my light and view of the universe with others through the practice of yoga. I believe that true bliss stems from the consciousness of the mind, body and spiritual connection. Through the combination of yoga, meditation, and nutrition, I hope to encourage and inspire individuals to cultivate a deeper alignment between the divine soul and the universe.
I now offer private, group and event yoga classes in the San Diego area. I also teach two times a week at the CorePower Yoga in Little Italy. You can always reach out to me for bookings at www.heyitsnicole.com
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Obstacles in life teach us to ride the wave. Just as the tide rolls in. it’s equally dragged back out. Ebbs and flows are normal, but its how you allow yourself to flow with the waves that will guide you in the right direction.
My journey was not simple. I don’t think anyone’s journey is supposed to be perfect.
Knowing what I know now, it’s my job to let you know that if you’re facing any type of struggle or adversity, that’s the universes’ way of giving you an assignment. You have two choices, you can take that assignment, and choose to look at it in a negative light, or you can take the assignment, do the inner work, put out high vibrational energy, to ultimately come out on the other side a happier, healthier version of you.
We were created by the sun (also known as Yoga) and the moon (Ayurveda), and we each have a gift which is also known as our “soul purpose”.
Once you find that one thing that sets your soul on fire, your current challenges won’t seem so big. I encourage everyone to set aside at least 10 minutes each day to be in a quiet place where you can connect to nature. Often times, you’ll find the signs you’re looking for in the sounds and sights around you.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Power Vinyasa Yoga. Connecting one breath to one movement. I try to bring a strong sense of connectedness and spirituality to each one of my classes. Connection to oneself, nature, food, and people is the most impactful thing you can do to raise the vibration of yourself and others. I pull a lot of my inspiration from the books I read about yoga philosophy. One of my favorites is “The Universe has your back” by author Gabrielle Bernstein. I also love “Krisnamacharya” and the “Inner Tradition of Yoga” by Michael Stone.
I am 200 hour Power Yoga certified through the Yoga Alliance, and also 50-hour Sculpt Certified. I am also working to dive more into the field of Ayurveda (the sister science of yoga) as this strongly resonates with me. I am fascinated by the Chakra system as well and believe that energy has to flow freely through our bodies in order to be in alignment with our higher selves. By eating specific foods of a certain color, you can actually activate your chakras, and become more grounded, confident, and enlightened.
In 2020, my goal is to travel to at least two countries and attend two yoga retreats to deepen my own personal practice. I hope to bring back my learnings and share them with my students.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Our past lives are simply planted seeds to help us grow into who we were meant to be all along.
I grew up an only child, without my father being present. My mom raised me, and while we weren’t poor, I definitely sensed the struggle in finances that my mom went through while she put me through high school and college.
My past experiences ultimately affected my confidence and well being. From the outside, many would say I was the happiest, funniest most lighthearted human being, but on the inside, I knew I was filled with fear and racing thoughts which lead me to speak negatively to myself when no one was around.
I also took a lot of anger out on my mom for my father not being present. Even though my mom is my best friend, our past experiences can deeply affect our relationships to the people we’re closest to.
Gabrielle Bernstein says one of the misconceptions in life, is that that people believe if something is worth having, it requires struggle and sacrifice. But the truth is, our belief in struggle actually blocks our successes.
If you can peel back the layers and acknowledge your past, that’s the most powerful thing you can do to release your past karma and live the life you were always meant to live.
