Life and Work with Nikki Tingle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Tingle.

Nikki, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In this chapter of my story, I am a wife (10 years this month woop woop!), a mother of 2 awesome boys, ages 6 and 8 (that we have somehow managed to keep alive), a small business owner (with more projects, dreams and ideas lined up than I will likely be able to get to in my lifetime), and a grateful human being who is constantly learning and growing.

I grew up in Orange County and completed an Associate Degree in Health Science right out of high school before moving down to San Diego in my early 20’s. San Diego is incredible so I never left. I mostly worked in the restaurant industry while going through college. I have always loved trying new things so of course, it made perfect sense to go from Nursing to Interior Design to making sushi to my degree in Business Management. I never would have guessed that all those things (besides sushi-making — though I don’t regret that for one minute!) would help me in my business now but I certainly am very grateful for that!

On a side note, and not a glorious one, I have had many struggles with my skin — acne for years and even melanoma skin cancer starting in my mid 20’s. I have been clear of the melanoma during each check-up over the last few years and am thankful to God and a team of fabulous doctors who keep a close watch on me but yet it is still one check-up at a time.

I stayed home with my kiddos for most of their first few years and was so grateful to be able to do so. During that time, a passion and vision began taking shape for the next chapter. I knew I liked helping people, I knew I liked creating and designing, I had lots of customer service experience, an education in business and I was fascinated with skin (no doubt in part due to my own skin struggles). Plus I really wanted a career that I could pursue around my family.

Fast forward to now, I am a California Licensed Esthetician and I own and operate Seraphic Skincare within the My Salon Suite Building in Santee. I love what I do! There have been risks and struggles but I am so grateful that my other life experiences, though very different from one another, have blended into a career that I am passionate about. Every day I get to help others feel better about themselves. Almost every aspect of the business from the interior design, menu, products selected and the services themselves are a creative expression from my heart. I love that I have found an industry where I can continually grow, expand and learn TONS of new things because skincare is always advancing and knowledge in this field is literally infinite.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am learning to appreciate all the bumps in the road! Sorry not sorry, but I gotta take this metaphor and go with it. The road is just not always smooth or clear. But to be honest, if getting to a destination was smooth and predictable the whole way, where the heck would the adventure be? The smooth stretches of the road might be a time to enjoy the view — but those unforeseen bumps in the road are where the most amount of growing and learning occur. And isn’t that really what it’s all about? Who we become along the way? I believe if we focus more on the journey and not just the outcome, we may be more likely to jump in the car and give ourselves the green light to go for it! Besides, one trip may come to an end but who says there has to be a final destination? I’m excited to see what’s around the next bend!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Seraphic Skincare – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Seraphic Skincare offers high-quality facials, enzymes, hybrid chemical peels, Clear FX Microdermabrasion and waxing services. Every facial treatment is customized and ranges from relaxing, rejuvenating, acne focused, hydrating and/or anti-aging and oftentimes a blend more than one of these. Treatments and home care are usually progressive and goal-oriented.

Another thing that sets Seraphic Skincare apart is how even masks and peels can be customized. Masks are customized by adding drops of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals or other compounds to a mask base depending on the client’s skin. And yes, it sounds crazy to customize peels but they can actually be layered and customized with more than one type of peel used during a single service!

In the near future, Seraphic Skincare will be launching some serums and other homecare products and they will be available in-store and online (www.seraphic-skincare.com & Amazon.com). So far, one product has been launched — our incredible exfoliating mitts. They are pretty much life-changing!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Retrospectively, I can see how many life experiences both earlier and later in life have influenced my business mindset. One thing that comes to mind is, as a homeschooled teenager, I was always encouraged to try new things, especially pertaining to creativity and working with my hands. Usually, I would have several projects going from painting, crafts of all kinds, gardening, guitar, cooking, forging new skincare and hair preparations out of yogurt or herbs or oatmeal or vinegar or egg yokes or whatever I could get my hands on! Whether what I created was deemed a success or not didn’t really matter; I was praised for trying something new. Even now, I feel like that spirit of wanting to try new things has become a part of who I am. Additionally, I think that I learned early on how to set my own pace and work independently and I can see how that has greatly helped me in my business endeavors today. On the real, we all have many experiences while growing up — some “positive” and some “negative.” Some of them set us up for success and perhaps some don’t. What matters today is learning to recognize our strengths and weaknesses — then being willing to find resources like books, blogs, church, workshops, magazines or surrounding ourselves with amazing people and just KEEP ON GROWING. I totally believe that success follows when we are willing to grow and work on ourselves from the inside first…and I love knowing that I will always be a work in progress every day that I’m alive!
