Today we’d like to introduce you to Nitsa Jensen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nitsa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my journey with wellness, health and fighting for medical freedom when I got pregnant with my daughter Penelope. Soon after finding out I was pregnant, I started researching baby products and looking into everything baby related. As most moms do, I started comparing baby products, seeing what different companies offered, researched ingredients in baby products and spent a lot of time trying to find the best baby products. Soon into my pregnancy, two major things happened: I experienced depression and I discovered that most ingredients that were being allowed in baby products were toxic. I was horrified by what was acceptable for our most vulnerable and precious new babies.
After reading the book Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers by Nancy Mohrbacher, I knew that I needed to look into alternative methods for supporting my depression and emotional needs during pregnancy. One of my close girlfriends, Maggie, introduced me to essential oils. I was amazed at how many benefits there were to using essential oils during pregnancy for emotional, hormonal and sleep support. When I realized how easy and beneficial it was to use essential oils for my own personal needs, I started looking into using essential oils in our home. I quickly learned that not only were baby products filled with toxic and harsh ingredients, but household cleaning products were as well. I started making my own cleaners, stopped using candles (synthetic fragrances are a huge endocrine disrupters!!) and made homemade baby wipes. I realized making my own household products was easier than I imagined and it felt good knowing that the ingredients were safe for my family.
I used essential oils for the remainder of my pregnancy with my daughter and have honestly never looked back. We continue to use essential oils and other alternatives for our health and wellness every single day. After using essential oils for a couple of years, I decided to start an essential oil business to help educate and empower other moms. My mission is to help moms take control of their own health, their children’s health and not be dependent on products that are toxic and harmful. I also use my blog NitsaJensen.com as a platform to share about motherhood, living simply and connecting with other women through the journey of motherhood.
Since discovering that baby, personal care and household products are filled toxic ingredients, I have become passionate about demanding better and safer products for everyone. I actively speak up about the corruption from major companies and industries that are supposed to be but are not regulating the safety of these products. I feel it is of the utmost importance that people research the ingredients in their food, personal care products and household products.
I never thought I would be blogging about motherhood, helping moms switch to safer products through essential oils or using my social media as a platform to raise awareness for medical freedom.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! I have spent countless hours learning how to build a blog, run the back end of a website and educate people on essential oils (including myself!).
A lot of people have shared their opinions about how I choose to live. From having natural births to homeschooling our kids, I’ve learned that doing things that aren’t the societal “norm” will make people uncomfortable. Often times, especially more so in the past, I have struggled with sharing raw, honest feelings due to the fear of being judged or not accepted by others. I am working on this daily!
I struggle to find the time to do all the things I am passionate about which are sharing about medical advocacy on social media, posting about motherhood on my blog, educating women on essential oils, exercising and homeschooling.
Motherhood is such a wild journey, no two moms are the same and I think that is the absolute beauty of it all. I love that my friends are all so different (moms or not). I have found that surrounding myself with women that are positive, encouraging and, most importantly, accepting are the best friends to have.
To women or moms that are just starting their journey of wellness and health advocacy: find your people. Seek out those that will support you and fight alongside you. Look for the women that applaud your differences and raise you up. Stay your path and trust your gut. Your God-given instincts were given to you for a reason, don’t push those down!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I love to work with women who are passionate about helping others! I work with an amazing team of women that are fearless, inspirational and devoted to changing the lives of others. Helping others incorporate essential oils and other alternative methods for their health and wellness is one of my biggest passions. I think helping others pursue their own passion is one of the greatest blessings. Everyone’s journey to finding their passion is different. Depression during my first pregnancy was one of the darkest times in my life, but it brought me to where I am today. I am grateful that so much light came from so much darkness.
Not only am I proud of helping other women with their wellness journey, I am proud of using my voice to bring awareness to topics that are controversial. Sharing personal and raw stories is always difficult- I frequently debate clicking the “publish” or “post” button, but ultimately I know there is someone out there reading it-and who am I to decide if my story will help another person or not? Our society of instant gratification and perfectly orchestrated social media pictures needs more truth to be shared. It may not always be easy for the reader to read or the writer to write, but luckily more and more moms are sharing their truth.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
This question is always in the forefront of women entrepreneurs! I think network marketing companies that provide the right tools, resources and support are an incredible opportunity for women, especially stay-at-home moms. The people, the products and the passion make all the difference.
I think women starting their own businesses need to understand that setbacks, mistakes and obstacles are not equivalent to failure. In fact, the more we fall, the more we will learn from our mistakes and grow. Being uncomfortable and overcoming those obstacles will propel us into the world of opportunities. I started several different businesses and ventures before finding my passion. At the time, when I made the decision to leave or stop what I was pursuing, I felt like a quitter- like I was giving up on myself. What I realize now is how all those businesses, ideas and challenges were helping to refine the passion I have today for motherhood, wellness and medical advocacy.
I think with social media and the internet being available at our fingertips at any moment’s notice, there is more information available today than ever before on how to start our own business and create our own opportunities. I think women are positioned extremely well for opportunities in sales because it comes very naturally to share about things we love, use and recommend. Women are oftentimes the main purchaser of goods and products of the home, why not support and buy from your friends?
