Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Silva.
Raquel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my journey in the beauty industry at age 17. I worked with a hairstylist in a salon and applied makeup on her bridal clients. Shortly after that, I worked for Shiseido Cosmetics inside of a department store. My goal was to eventually work for MAC Cosmetics because it was the leading makeup brand known to train the best artists. That goal became reality at age 21. I started at MAC as a freelance artist and worked my way all the way to management. After perfecting my craft with MAC Cosmetics for the last 12 years, I felt it was time to follow my dreams of being a business owner in the beauty industry thus creating Glam and Tan.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definitely some struggles along the way. Most of them have been discovering who I was and building confidence in myself in this industry. My advice to young women just starting out would be, do your research on a few of your favorite brands, continue to learn your product knowledge, challenge your artistry and push boundaries. Now with social media being the driving force in makeup, trends are changing daily. You as an artist have to be innovative and find what makes you stand out amongst the crowd. Be true to yourself and let your personality show through.
Please tell us about Glam and Tan.
I am a Makeup Artist specializing in Bridal and Special Event Makeup. As well as Mobile Spray Tanning for all of your special events. I pride myself on capturing the essence of how you want to look and feel on your special day and customizing it to fit all your needs. I can create a natural to dramatic makeup application for you. When I meet with my clients, I investigate all of their needs and ensure they are all met. I don’t want to stamp on the same look on every client. I want each client to feel like themselves and their best features enhanced.
When I give a spray tan, I want to give you the most beautiful bronze glow. I work with my clients to decide if they want a light or deep tan.
